Navy For Moms

PLEASE MUST READ!! Everything about boot camp and PIR.

RTC's website

MUST read this website top to bottom time and time again!! What they do at boot camp, how to send letters, when they get letters, phone call, contacting them in emergency, PIR (parking, seats, liberty, grad and go, cell phone).....etc, everything is there!!

Everyone who have a loved one about to go to boot camp, just went to boot camp or about to graduate should read especially this one.

Family guide

It also includes a very good Navy lingo section which will be useful for everyone.

P.S.
There are so many moms who are so desperate to find out the address for their children at boot camp. I know you all stalk recruiters and get mad at them and stuff but I found a very good explanation of this issue.

"Recruits will mail home a letter with their address in the first week of training. Unfortunately, neither RTC nor your local recruiter can give you their address any sooner because of the Privacy Act; only your recruit can give you their address. But once you have it, start sending those letters!"

I can't be 100% sure but I don't think Privacy act applies to spouses. But if it does then his recruiter shouldn't have done it because this explanation is on this RTC website. I know many recruiters do give them out to family members and such but I am just quoting from Navy website.

This Privacy act plays a big role while recruits are in boot camp. Many parents get up set because this is the very first time their children are out of reach and no info will be given to them even when their children are sick and in a hospital because they are over 18 = adult and Privacy act applies. (For medical, it is called HIPAA)

More about Privacy act.

The RTC Public Affairs office is not permitted to release information on individual recruits which is protected under the Privacy Act of 1974, 5 U.S.C. section 552a. This includes all personal information related to a recruit's training record, medical treatment, official service record, or administrative separation processing. Family members and other interested parties may have access to such information only if a recruit has signed a written waiver of his or her rights under the Privacy Act. The waiver must list the specific individuals to whom release of personal information is authorized. Any recruit may request permission from a Recruit Division Commander (RDC) to visit the Legal Department and complete a Privacy Act waiver form.

I read this also about a week ago. I think maybe some of the recruiters have become close to the families and do it as a 'favor' at their own discretion. However, it does clearly state that they don't in the privacy act...We should be happy when the recruiter's help and try to understand their position as well when necessary.

the "family guide" must be down for this website, as I can't find out when Graduation is now that I know my son's division number.
