Navy For Moms

Inspired by my son and the physical training he was going through (and TOTALLY disgusted with my own LACK of discipline and physical conditioning!) last May I started on the path to better health . . .

Starting with 'public' accountability, and a WHOLE lot of support in the form of the "Ship Shape Up" group, I changed the way I look at my life, throwing out the idea of 'diet' and recognizing it as a lifestyle change - instead of using food as a comfort tool and boredom buster, I focused on more activity (and drinking LOTS of water) and signed up for a 5 mile hike (and invited some best friends to join me) and one year and 35 pounds later I've 'found' the healthier person who's been hiding inside:)!

Exactly 4 months from today, I will be joining thousands of others in Seattle for the 3-Day 60-mile Walk for Breast Cancer along with a few of the GREAT friends I've made here on the Navy For Moms website:)!

For more information on how you can participate, please visit the 3 Day Walk Group . . . or just ask me:)!

Meanwhile . . . we've been posting the distance we walk in the "Walk Across America" discussion in the Ship Shape Up group:)! As of today, we've accumulated 882 miles . . . that's more than halfway from my house to Seattle or just about the distance from Great Lakes to Norfolk . . . :)! Feel free to join us in Ship Shape Up, together we are greater than we can be as individuals . . .

If this 50 'something' mom with joint issues can make life changes . . . so can you:)! GIANT HUGS to all:)!

Hi Joyce ~ thanks for inspiring us to live healthier lifestyles. I've recently started back to walking and hope to get back to jogging this summer. I love the energy I get from working out regularly. Again, thank you.

hi joyce, decided to check into the walk thing that you are doing, i havent done that in two years. I helped my son get into shape to get into the navy, and then i let it go. lost the weight, but just got lazy. I am recouperating from ankle surgery so i cant walk very far right now. tried it last week and am paying for it now. go back to the doc on thurs to get progress report and when i can go back to work, been off for 3 months now. I am so out of shape, stiff, i cant believe its been two years but as soon as i can, i am going to get back after it, you inspired me. With the texas sized mosquitoes tho, i think i will have to wait a bit tho. keep up the good work, and enjoy washington.
