Thanks for the tips. I'll be sure to have my son leave me a voice mail on my cell phone before he leaves. That way, I'll be able to listen to his voice whenever I want.
Hi Pat and thank you for the welcome!
My oldest son, Rob (21), is also a MM Nuke. He just recently reported to the USS Eisenhower. He graduated Propulsion in March of 2008, i think. He was in BS, NY. He stayed and attended ELT school. They were put on hold for quite awhile, so he didn't actually transfer out of NY until last month! He just got married last July, but his wife is still here in Indiana going to college.
My youngest son, Tomas (19), is currently in Power school in GC, SC. He should graduate in Sept... i think. He is also a MM and is considering subs, altho it depends on what day you ask him... lol.
My youngest daughter, Char (17), is seriously considering the Navy at this point. She would like to go into intelligence, but doesn't know if she wants officer or enlisted. She is only a junior, so we have alittle time for her to decide.
We live in the Central Indiana near the Illinois line. I haven't seen too many people from our area yet, but surely there are some out there... lol
We live in Jeffersonville, Indiana (just across the river from Louisville, KY). Most of our extended family live in Columbus, IN and Fishers & Noblesville, IN (Indianapolis). Our son leaves for Great Lakes next week (June 24th). He is signed up for AECF (Advanced Electronic Computer Field). I am curious to know how soon after PIR he will be able to have his cell phone and laptop? I think he will be staying at Great Lakes for his tech core & A school. Also, is the anticipation of them leaving worse than when they actually leave? I know my son is 22 and not a "baby" anymore, but he still lives at home and has been working 3rd shift at UPS while attending school, so we see him everyday. I don't know how I am going to cope with not being able to hear from him for several weeks until he earns a phone call home. Sigh...
Thanks for the support!
Paula
Thanks for your comment. My son signed up for AECF (advanced electronic computer field). I think this means he will not only do boot camp in Great Lakes, but will do his tech core training and A school there as well. We THINK he will be there about 8 months. We are about a 5.5 hour drive from there so we will be able to get to PIR pretty easily as well as visit him during his schooling before he goes to C school. How soon after PIR can they have their cell phones & laptops? Thanks again for your support. I look forward to making new friends through the Navy support groups! Paula Bova
Thanks for the welcome Pat! I am here for my daughter. She has been thinking about going into the Navy for about a year. We actually talked to a recruiter last week and she was to be sworn in this Thursday. Unfortunately, she has decided to wait. I think that the thought of being gone for so long after A school really made her nervous. I told her that I would stand behind her whatever her decision but I think she should still go. Any thoughts? Did you have this problem with your son/daughter?
Hi Pat,
Thanks so much for the information. I really appreciate it. My focus has been on the bootcamp site but since PIR is in a couple of weeks I'll have to move my focus to Nuke Moms and keep up to date. If you don't mind, you'll probably be hearing from me a lot more. Thanks again!!!
Hey, girlfriend! Are you coming to dinner on Monday? I don't know if you saw my post on the event, but if you'd like to stay over at my place Monday night, you can... don't know if that helps or not.
And did Leslie's boy finally get home? Or about to? Hugs! k.
Thank you so much! I feel so much more prepared after just spending a little time on this site. My son Brandon is currently at boot camp in his second week. I feel like I have a better understanding of what is going on over there after reading the posts on N4M.
Thanks for the welcome, Pat. I'm hoping to make it to the Olive Garden gathering on the 15th so I can meet other Indy Westside Navy moms. I'm looking forward to communicating on this site and also spending some time this summer trying to personalize my page.
Here is the latest on my Son who is in the Atlantic doing flight certifications aboard ship. please visit: http://137.247.20.5/cvn77/photo_gallery/photo_gallery1.htmlard
