Thank you so much for replying to my initial posting. My son's name is Drew (19), and we are awaiting his bootcamp sendoff. He leaves in July and is excited. Read some of the other postings and saw about the only thing you can bring is a Bible to bootcamp. He will be working with weapons and electronics. Offhand, I can't remember what his precise job description is. Hopefully all will go well. A little concerned about the physical fitness side and the running. Sure he will do well though. He used to play soccer and did well. Talk to you soon.

thanks for the welcome. my daughter is interested in a navy career...i thought she was on track for college, but that does not seem to be the case. i am strangely bothered by this...i say "strangely," because i am an army brat. i don't know why this bothers me...i think i am coming around to it. i appreciate the support of other moms...what were your initial feelings about your child joining? i am concerned that she is just making a rash decision in an attempt to gain her independence. i am not completely out of touch; i remember the same feelings when i was her age. i just don't know how i feel about it now...we see our children on one path, and then they take another. it is difficult...i don't want to influence her to do this, but i am proud of my long standing family military heritage. despite this, i have reservations and i don't know why. i am trying to take positive steps...Liz

June 29,
Thank you Pat, for the welcome. My son Greg (23) is at BC and will graduate on 7/31/09. He will be stationed at Goose Creek, SC for 2 years in the 'Nuc' program. He hopes to be on a Nuclear sub one day. He recently go married before BC. So we are all dealing with a lot of changes in our family! Can you recommend a good hotel to stay in for PIR? I need to make reservations ASAP! Thanks :)

Hi Pat,
Thanks for the welcome. My son, Laken, 18, just left on the 24th for boot camp. I am really fresh into this. I received the first note from him today. It was nice getting a short message from him. Laken has 3 brothers: Jordan, 16, Mason 12, and Briceson who is 9. My husband, Greg, and I and all of his brothers are very supportive of his decision. Thanks again for the welcome! Talk to you later, Kris

Hi Pat- My son is entering the navy through the DEPS program. He is turning 18 July 8th and is signing tomorrow with our consent. He will go thru his senior year and then attend BC next summer. He was really excited until we found out he was color-blind. He was wanting to get a job in aviation or electronics. Now both of those are unattainable. Now he has chosen Hospital Corseman.
He is my oldest of 2 kids: Kali is 14.
thanks for the welcome- More later-Donna

Hi Pat,

Thank you for your welcome. My daughter (18) has just joined and she will be leaving to BC in march. She is my only daughter but I am very proud of her and the decision she made. I come from a military background, so I know how important and exciting this life can be for her. Also, the great opportunities that being in the Navy can offer her.

Hi Pat,
Thank you for the welcome. I can see already this site is going to be just the support I need. I'm not sure about all the acronyms yet, what is a IT3? My son leaves on July 10th and is hoping to be a Seal, he received his contract in December.
I hope to keep in touch, thank you...Kathy

Pat, thank you for the welcome note...it sure makes a mom feel like they are not alone. My son David is 22 and will graduate boot camp 8/7/09. I hope to take his younger brother to IL to see his graduation. I have a 29 yr old son who is in the Calif. Air Guard and is currently active duty. David would like to attend the language school in Calif...he passed the initial screening test. I will definitely check out the Navy mom's nurse group.
Thank you for making me feel welcome...
Beth

Hello and thank you for the welcome. Our son is currently in boot camp and will go to "A" school after graduation. This is the longest we have been seperated and it's difficult not hearing from him. So far we have received the "box" and the form latter with his note. I know this is going to be a long journey and I hope he has a wonderful experience. Thank you for your thoughts and support. Pam

Hi Pat,

Thank you. I am so new to all of this. I do not know the lingo yet, and am still trying to adjust to my 17 year old son being gone. I'm sure I will catch on though. My son Left Thursday to Boot Camp and it's only Monday. Not sure how I'm going to get through this. Thank you again for the welcome, I have alot to learn.

Hello Pat,

Sorry it's taken me so long to reply. Yes, I do have questions. My son just arrived in Pensacola on June 23,2009. He is in the process of classes before he starts "A" school. He's a bit nervous because they is alot of studying. He said he is a AWAT. What is that? When I send him mail it's ATO,Bugarin Alex. What does ATO stand for. I pray for him everyday that he can get through his schooling. I feel like I am going through the process with him. It's so scarry! thanks for listening. Stephanie

Hello Pat, Thanks for the welcome note. Nick was going to be a store keeper but they have changed his title already to LS so I'm not real sure. He leaves for bootcamp Aug. 4th.
