Thank you for the welcome. My son is 29 and currently deployed in Afghanistan. He is a Seabee with the Naval Construction Battilion and has been there since February. He has a beautiful wife and 2 beautiful children who are waiting for him to come home to Port Hueneme, CA.
Hi Pat,
Thanks for writing! Jacob is an AT3, stationed currently at Whitby Island, WA. He has been in almost 4 years (in Sept) and is re-enlisting. He just came back from his 7 month boat dep in Oct 2008 on the West Pac tour attached to the USS Lincoln. He already has orders to head to Afghanistan after the first of the year. Has your daughter gone out to sea yet? Sounds like your son might be out now??? If you get the chance to go on the Tiger Cruise I would recommend it...my son gave that to his dad for a Christmas present and he had a blast! He is still raving about it....of course, I'm jealous and told Jacob is he goes on another "cruise" I want to do the Tiger Cruise!
Thanks for writing.....I think this will be a good thing for me!
Yes it is a long flight they both are it was a 19 hour flight to Japan and then another flight once there to reach the Sasaebo where he was station along with a 2 hour bus ride
Sarah isn't allowed to tell me when they are flying them out of Beaufort for San Diego. She can only say it's around the middle of the month. Apparently "loose lips sink ships". Her husband usually calls me after he drops her off at the hanger on base to let me know that she's on her way. She'll then call me from San Diego where she gets there but she can't tell me when the ship is pulling out. On the 2 work-ups that she went out on she would email me just about everyday. That was nice! And I did get a couple of phone calls but it was hard to talk with the delay on the phone. It's going to be pretty hard when she's gone for 6 months because we talk almost everyday. She's my only child. Have a great time in San Diego. It's a beautiful city. And the weather is almost always perfect. We visited Sarah once in San Diego. She lived out there for a little over a year before she joined the Navy.
Thanks for the info. He was off the last 4 days and exploring Florida. He is suppose to be sending us info on when we will be able to go see him. I live in Indiana and that would be a good vaction for us. We were suppose to go to Chicago to see him last week end, but he got released to go to Florida.
Thank you for the post, it is my pleasure! I was stationed in Hawaii for three and a half years and loved it. I'm sure that you aren't to heart broken having to fly out there and visit your daughter.
How funny my Ashley say's the same thing before she went in she was fine and now she seems to have nothing but the cutties ...lol...My son is home for a visit now he had been stationed over in Japan and enjoyed it there so he stayed for 5 years. As of last month his home port will be Jacksonville. Ashely and I just came back for a visit with him last month. Now I can't wait until Sept I will be visiting my youngest son in Bahrain
He just went to Pensacola, Fl. He is in aveation.(I think I spelled that right) I do not know what the name of the school is. He was on hold from April until last Thursday.
Thank you so much for your note. My daughter just left on the shuttle for San Antonio and then on to basic today... She is going into the nuke program and is very excited but had a hard time letting go of mom today....not that I did much better... I will join the group you mentioned and look forward to talking later on

I will be sure to check out military.com to practice the ASVAB. Thanks again for letting me know. And yes traveling the world and being apart of something like the U.S NAVY would be an awesome experience.
Thanks!! Your son is on the USS NIMITZ! awesome. OPB did a documentry on that carrier. I am so nervous to join, but right now I am studying for the ASVAB and I am wanting to go into there photography program. I think the NAVY will be a great way to grow as a person and travel. And to serve AMERICA! thanks for the help ;)
Pat,
Thank you for the warm welcome. My son Matt (18), left 7/2 for bootcamp. I have never experienced so many emotions as I have the past few days! He will be schooled in IS after graduation. Waiting for the "box" and letter to come. Not sure how I am going to handle receiving his clothes. I am sure the tears will start again and will subside for the time being.
Pat, Thank you for the welcome. My son is a master at arms, MAT in Japan. He has 12 years in the Navy. He has been to the middle east on several occasions. In one year he will return. He guards cargo on ships that are delivering goods to the military in Iraq. But, for the next year he will be in Japan.
Hey Pat,
My son Andrew (22) just graduated from the naval Academy as a Marine 2nd LT. At some point he will be going to Pensacola, FL for flight school.
Hi Pat
Thanks for the welcome. My son Chris has been in the Navy since 2000. He is a nuclear missile tech on a submarine, currently on shore duty in Bangor Wa. He is up for Chief Petty Officer and we are waiting to hear the outcome. I have been a Navy mom for many years so if anyone has questions I will try to help.
Thanks
