We actually have our wedding planned for December 21 this year because I was reading that they get some time off, and we thought that would be a good time to do it, also I know that there is talk about taking leave and stuff for Christmas, but what if he only lives like an hour and a half away from GLakes..? Then does he have to take any leave time?? Also would we get the same housing allowance as we would get when he is staioned somewhere?? I have a million questions lol so bare with me, do you think his A school will be longer than 6 months, I thought that was when you were aloud to be with them, if it was going to be longer than 6 months.

Well all I know is what he tells me lol. Yeah, his Uncle is an FC, we think he's in Seattle, but they have been out of touch for awhile. We got lucky, when he went up to MEPS on like August 4th I think, and originally they told him that he would be leaving next May, and he asked if they had anything sooner, the job guy said well let me give GLakes a call, so he called right then, and they said that he would be able to go September 15. We were both surprised. His recruiter even more so..lol I'm so glad to find support online from people who have been through it and know, also I did ask him about being in GLakes for all of his training and he said that's what the paper said, but it was from last year, and from what I gather things are always changing with the Military so who knows. Is it true they get a break for Christmas in A school??

Hello Mary!! Thank you for the welcome! Yes the FC is because they told him he was going to be an FC. They gave him a bonus as well. He leaves for boot camp on Sept. 14th...so soon...He wanted to be an FC because his uncle is one. They told him that all his schooling was going to be in Great Lakes, and that it would be about 7 months total, but who knows with all this holding talk. We are trying to figure everything out, and I'm trying to prepare myself as much as I can, this will be the first time we will really be away from eachother for an extended amount of time.

We should get together. I do work in Kennesaw/Acworth area. Let me know what your schedule is like. Our weekends are not too bad, we usually go to mass on Saturday night, but we are flexible.

Hi Mary,
In answer to your question about my son being on the Chung Hoon, Yes and No. Yes he was on board for part of a deployment, however, no, he is not a regular crew member. He is a helo controller and when they went on deployment, their controller had a non-deployable shoulder injury so Greg was sent in his place. After a few months he was replace by another controller that had to get requalified. He is currently a fill-in on another ship on deployment and hopefully he will be home soon to start his shore duty. They are staying in Hawaii. It's hard on me for them being there another three years. I don't get to see them or my grandson very often. But that's Navy Life.

One day Mary, one day. We could cause so much trouble if we got together. Yes, both our boys left on the 26th it seems. I think next Spring, we will go visit my sailor. How about you? I'll take you to Texas with me if you take me to Hawaii with you. lol I can't wait to see those Hawaii photos. He is going to send some right? Why can boys kill a million monsters on a video game but don't know how to use a camera? lol

Hey Mary, hope all is well with you! i have a quick question. While looking for a USS GRIDLEY group I came upon this Commander Carrier Strike Group Seven that the Gridley appears part of. Could you tell me what that means? I know youu probably get tired of questions but you seem to know it all! Thanks.

I ran out of room on the message for the friends request I sent to you. I was going to say that we have family in the Atlanta area. My brother in law and his family live in Hampton. They have 2 girls at UGA and one still in high school. Thanks again for the welcome to the group. Paula

Yes, we are still on cloud nine after the PIR! Our son was the AROC of is division so it was great at PIR since he was in front the whole time! He is supposed to be an ET in the AECF program. Apparently, they are all on hold for now. He is still in temporary living space, staying on the Enterprise for now. He hopes to get moved into his permanent living space soon. How long after PIR did you son stay at Great Lakes? Hawaii - WOW! How exciting. I hope you get to visit! Our son turned 23 the Monday after PIR and we also have a 20 year old daughter who just started her junior year of college. She lives with us and commutes to school (really close). Thanks for welcoming me to the group. Paula

Oh my! You are sooo psychic. I took my son to the airport on the 26th. I was doing very well. But Thursday, about the time you started thinking about me, I was crying my eyes out. It finally hit me that he was gone again. I went into his room and called him. That was a good idea because by the time I looked around and told him what a mess he left, I was laughing again. I miss him and his visit was way too short but I'm okay. We had a great time with him home. Thanks for thinking about me. I hope you are doing okay too. Wasn't it wonderful seeing them? Now, go practice your hula dance. :)
