Hi Karen,
What a wonderful way to support each other while we support those we love. I'm the mother of a career sailor who has lived abroad, instructed the MK45, participated on a VBSS team during 2008 deployment and is now recruiting. Although this isn't the career I would have chosen for him, its the perfect fit, which proves he knows better how to make decisions for his life than I do. Like the song says......when given the choice......"I hope you dance....". Its a good feeling to know that your son/daughter has contributed to society in this place in time and that one person can truly make a difference. I'm glad I didn't stand in his way.
Hello Karen! Thanx for commenting and inviting me to introduce myself. I'm Deb, and live in Toledo with my husband of six years, Ian, and my 20yrold daughter Cherilyn and my 18yrold son Nick. My eldest son Christian is 22 and is stationed in Bremerton WA and is a Personnel Specialist-til-the-end-of May, when he will be in Customer Service instead. He's been out there for just over a year so I flew out there 3 weeks ago to be with him for his birthday on the 1st of May. I spent a wonderful week with him and his friends and when I get more computer-savvy, I'll post pix's of us and our visit on here. Thank you again for your invite-to-chat. I'll check this regularly now - and as people are stating - your poster IS beautiful!!
Thank you for the warm welcome. I'm going to be taking baby steps as this is all still so very new to me.
My son graduated boot camp April 3rd and has just now finished the first class. I'm not clear on everything
because I don't get to communicate with my son often. I can tell you he is still in Great Lakes waiting
for the next class to begin.
Hi Karen,
It has been a long time since I've had the chance to get on this site. Fortunately, things are calming down a little bit now so I hope that I'll be able to get on here a little more often. How are your boys doing? I think the last time I was on you still had two at Goose Creek, have they graduated yet? Prototype or the Fleet? How are you doing? Still keeping busy?

Thanks for responding. My son Ed Has been in the Navy for 11 yrs now. He is a corpman. He became an IDC several years ago. Since the Marines have no medical, the Navy fills in for that duty. So he has been stationed with a marine unit for most of the time in service. He made Chief last year and I am very proud of him for that. He just left last Wed. for Africa for a 6 mo. tour. HIs fiancee just found out she was pregnant a week before he left, so that will put him home about 2 weeks before the baby is due. We are all very excited. My last grandchild will turn 18 in 3 weeks. I never did think he'd have a baby. The Navy takes all his time. But his fiancee is also in the Navy as an instructor for the new recruits. Life keeps going on.
Hi Karen, Thank you for your message, I am just getting started with this as my son left on Monday, after dropping him off on Sunday evening at the Hotel, and feeling like my heart was being ripped out of my chest, oh my I would have never guessed how much it would hurt to watch him leave. I got the box yesterday, another moment. So Ryan hasn't even been gone a week yet and I know it is going to take time, but I am so proud of him. I have another son at home that is 13, and not missing his brother, LOL, well maybe a little but won't admit it. My boyfriend was in the Navy back 95, and was a nuke too!, lots of school! I will get my page all up to date add some pictures. Again thank you for the welcome, and thank you sons for me too!
Hi Karen, Thank you for the warm welcome. My son Tommy is currently at Kings Bay, GA finishing up his schooling as an MT. He's doing well and last week was promoted to an E4 and he hasn't even been in for a year. I'm very proud of him and I believe he's found his calling. Tommy is the 3rd oldest of 4 children and my husband and I have 6 grandbabies. Thanks again and hope you have a wonderful Friday & weekend. God Bless
Hello Karen, thanks for the welcome. Glad to be aboard. my son Donald has been in the Navy since 6/98, he is a E6 in the ET dept aboard the USS Shiloh, currently completing his 2 year sea duty and will be coming home in August, will be stationed back in Jacksonville and getting married in October, he is the oldest of my 2 sons, glad this site is here, feel it willl be a great asset to all Navy Moms as well as other family members. Thanks again and if I have any questions will surely get in touch, have a blessed day and lets continue to pray for all military personnel everywhere.
Thanks Karen! Got a call from Jacksonville where Aj is stationed on MOther;s Day, that was my best gift! Have a great weekend, my computer is down, so I will get a pic of AJ up today! Gob bless you all! and America
Thanks! Im glad to be here I hope it will help me on this journey! Im not a mom of a sailor but I am a wife to be I guess you could say. My husband is planning to enlist in september and I have been going crazy since he told me about this decision last month! I support him all the way, I just haven't wrapped my head entirely around this thing yet. We have a gorgeous 16 month old daughter and we live in NC.
He is looking to do accounting, hes been taking college courses and wants to continue them once he joins. Were nervous though no ones being completely honest with us; there is supposedly a 12 month waiting list. Ive already told my mother Ill be moving in with her while hes in bootcamp in the fall.....im clueless as to what we should plan for anymore!?
Thank you for the welcome. I saw the commercial on TV and was not aware of the site. It is so wonderful to have such a site for families especially Moms. My husband & I are Marine Corp veterans. My husband spending 21 years with the Corps. We never pushed the military as a career but we are so proud that our son decided to join the Navy. My husband and son always discuss which service is better---the Navy or the Marine Corps!!! My son, has been the Navy since October 1999. He has just been transfered from being a recruiter in Lexington. KY. to Norfolk, VA. He is a fire controlman and is so glad to be back on a ship. My son's wife was also in the Navy but since has been discharged for medical reasons. She is so suportive of my son wanting to make this his career. My grandson loves to go & pick up dad from work, loving to see the giant ships.

It was wonderful to get a message from another Navy Mom. Do you know if there is a group in the Lake Worth area in Florida? (Palm Beach county). I would like to participate in some of the gatherings, but travelling out of the state is a limiting factor. Also, how can I find out what to do if I want to be at the pier when my son comes back?

Thank you for the warm welcome! My daughter, Ridley, is entering her junior year of college at UT Knoxville pursuing a nuclear engineering major. When she graduates, she will go to officer training school (we don't know where yet). After completing that, she will go to nuclear propulsion training school. She hasn't decided if she wants to be on an aircraft carrier or do research in DC. She will again interview in late fall of this year for a more specific nuclear program. Then I think she has to decide exactly what she wants to be doing. Currently, she has to keep her grades up and check in with her recruiter once a month.
Karen,
Thank you for the welcome! I hope to help answer some questions that moms with SEAL candidate sons are asking. My husband was a SEAL and now mentors many young men who also wish to follow that career path. We have many young friends in many different stages, from thinking of joining, boot camp, pre BUDs, BUDs and even active duty SEALs. Anything I can do to ease their minds. Knowledge is Power!!
Make it a great day!
