Hi karen...thanks for welcoming me. my daughter is interested in a career with the navy...hard for an army brat to hear, but hey, i can adjust- i think. i always thought her on track for college...evidently, not so. i am really working to adjust to this...or trying to. i really don't know what i think...on one hand, i am super proud of my own military heritage, so why am i concerned with her joining? i don't know. i joined for the support and advice of moms who have been there...thanks, liz
thank you Karen for sharing with me. My youngest son,Peter signed up with the Navy through the DEP. He had to wait an additional year due to surgery on his wrist. Meanwhile his middle brother joined the Navy . Travis went through basic and when he was graduated from his A school Peter graduated from Boot camp. Then Peter went to his A school in Pensecola AT while Travis went to Camp Pendelton for FMS. The boys were together again in CA. Peter went through the BUDS program to be a SEAL. The story goes on but I am so thankful to all the brave men and women who are serving our country. All my prayers and throught are with them all.
Hello - I'd like to share a bit about my son. He's stationed in California and has recently been deployed on the USS Ronald Reagan. He's an aviation tech and so far seems to be enjoying himself. I received my first email from him (actually the first I've heard from him since May 28) this past weekend. I'm hoping to be able to do the "Tiger Cruise" with him when he is on the last leg of his cruise!
OMG. I am moving to Guam in October I been praying God that my son gets stationed there.
Wow is sound like you have a wonderful son, I hope my Jessie can learn and grow from this experience and hopefully you get to go to Guam.
Thanks for the welcome. My son is an Intelligence Specialist, Chief Petty Officer stationed in Guam since March of this year. He has been in the Navy 12 years this September. He got married to a wonderful girl in January while he was stationed in San Diego. We are from Indiana but were spending the winter in Yuma, AZ so we drove to the wedding. His sister and brother were able to fly in, so his immediate family was able to attend. I am hoping that we will be able to take a vacation to Guam while he's there. I was able to go to Italy twice and Hawaii three times to visit him.
Karen, thanks for the welcome but I still haven't gotten you placed with who your child is? Brandon is my oldest grandson(20) and he is from a small rural area in West Texas. He went to a class A high school where he played football, basketball (his favorite) and track. He has always been a good student if we don't count Spanish. B's granddad was Superintendent there in the 70-80s. His dad works for an electric company and has been a single dad with the custody of 2 boys and a girl for years. He remarried last summer and and the 15 year old girl is now living with her mother. B was in college 40 miles from our ranch so I got to see him more than his dad as I do all my shopping in San Angelo, Texas. We have always been close and yes, I miss him but can hardly wait until the 17th. When he called yesterday, I was on cloud 9 and it was so good to talk to him and yes, he wants cookies. For six years, every week during basketball season I made cookies for the team when they went out of town, thus the Granny as they all call me that. B is going to go to Pensacola, Florida to A school in CTR or Cryptology Technician Collector.
He sent me a website so I could read about it and it sounds very interesting for someone who loves the computer. B was typing 146 wpm in 7th grade and this was what he was taking in college.

Well my son is now officially on active duty - his last swear in ceremony was earlier today and I watched him board the bus to take his group to the airport (very hard to do). I am more proud than I can put into words but I miss him so much already! I was surprised at few of these young people had any family there to see them off! Is this normal?
Hi Karen,
I'll post some pics as soon as I go through my folders.
Matt, my middle child, has been in the Navy for 8 years. He went to NNPTC school in SC then to Goose Creek and the USS RI. He is now doing shore duty in SC at the school. I just had the pleasure of spending my weekend with him, my daughter-in-law, and my newest granddaughter.
My oldest child, Adam, has just about completed school and is on his way to Goose Creek, GA for assignment to the USS Alaska. He missed getting into NNPTC school because of his age. He just turned 28.
Karen,
Thanks for the kind words.
I sent this up for my step son who is in Ship 10 Div 280. He left June 18th and as you might imagine his Mom is quite anxious.
We received his address from his recruiter last week and started writing to him everyday. We received the letter with his project graduation date, August 14. Mom was overwhelmed by the short note at the bottom of the letter. The box with his clothes arrived last week as well, Mom handled that pretty well.
I have found a number of videos on You Tube that help show Mom what things look like at RTC and this has helped with the anxiety.
Regards,
Michael, Proud Step Father.
Hi Karen, thanks for the welcome note. My son is currently stationed in Washington, D.C., serving in the Honor Ceremonial Guard. He is awaiting his orders to leave for "A" school in Pensacola, FL. He is going into the IT program. I miss him so much already and he hasn't left yet. I'm been lucky and used to him coming home every weekend. We live in Martinsburg, WV. Soon he won't be coming home on the weekends and I'm having a hard time adjusting. He's my only child. I'm so pround of him. Any suggestions or thoughts are greatly welcomed in how you and other moms are coping.
Hi Karen, thank you for the welcome note, I appreciate it. I have been browsing the different topics and am excited to be part of this community.
For four years my son was a Marine minded guy. We had blankets, pillows, he had posters on the wall, all of it. Then he comes home from school one day and says he joined the Navy! I about fell off my chair. His delayed entry, 10 months ago, started this grand adventure we are on and I am excited for my son.
He recently graduate from highschool and took the SEAL training test and passed! So we are on this journey with him as far as it leads. He is scheduled to leave for camp some time in Sept/Oct, we don't have a set date yet. I am so proud of my son. I will miss him SO much but I also know that He is God's hands and I find peace in that to calm my heart.
Thanks again for the kind note, blessing to you.
