I found this site while searching for information about the Navy Ceremonial guard. My son Eugene III is currently in Boot Camp, and graduates this Friday. He will be leaving soon for Washington, DC. After serving 25 years myself, I know very little about his first assignment. I know the training, inspections and all those things will be tough and he should be fine. If anyone here has any insight to the Ceremonial Guard please share.

My daughter is an Lab Technician right now stationed at Rota Naval Hospital in Rota Spain :( She's been there about a year now and really loves it compared to our cold Ohio winters. She's been in for approx. 2 1/2 years now. She graduated great lakes, then went to Portsmouth VA, for more lab tech training at Thomas Nelson, then she went to Rota..
She really surprised the daylights out of us, she graduated from college with a bachelors degree in Science and the next thing we knew she is enlisting! I had some major sleepless nights over that one! She was in college for approx 1 month when 9-11 happened, I think it made a major impact on her life, as I'm sure many here can say the same. We come from a family of some military, not long term stuff, but still very patriotic and I think the world of our guys and gals in uniform. I think too, she had many reasons for wanting to join along with patriotism, her education and benefits. I think she feels she can make a bigger difference there than in the private sector. I am saying alot of "I thinks" lol, who really knows what goes through those heads LOL...
I've never seen such a kid with no fear of the worlds terror right now, I am sure others can relate with that, albeit it keeps us parents on our knees alot lol.
Anyway, that is her story for now.
And the good news is, in 10 days she (and her spanish boyfriend!) are flying to Philly and we are going to meet them there for a week of camping and sightseeing! I cannot wait to see her, she's my only youngin and I miss her like crazy! Happy Days!
Her next duty station she is hoping for Florida, but we'll see, you know how that goes, but I'm praying anyway lol..

Thank you for the welcome. My son is off to MEPS tomorrow and I am looking forward to the support I can find here. I am already a little weepy. Don't know what I'll do when he leaves for boot camp.
Thank you for the welcome. Right now I am preparing for a visit from my son (a week's leave) daughter in law...and grandson (nine months old)...I am so glad there are Navy moms out there...
My son Chris is an electronic technician...he spent a year in Iraq and was awarded the bronze star.........In September he will have 16 years in the navy...he is a Senior Chief and at the present time is aboard the USS Nimitz.....In July 2008 I was elected as national commander at the national convention of Navy Mothers VCubs of America...I enjoymy work and all we do to help not only our present military, but also our veterans.......

Just thought I would let you know I met your Power School Sailor on Saturday. Mike is also in Class 904 but a different section. We are here in Charleston visiting and were privileged to get to attend their class picnic on Saturday. I took lots of pictures and Mike is going to help me post them the end of the week. Your son posed special for you with a friend, so you'll have to check the photos when I get them up. By the way he is a very handsome, polite and fun young man - you raised him right Miss Karen.

Brandon is going to Chicago first and then Texas. I hope I am able to fly out to see him Graduate boot camp. Thanks again.
Thank you for your welcome. My son has been in the Navy 3-1/2 years. He's a diver and stationed in Hawaii. He has a wife and 8 month old daughter. The Navy has been nothing but wonderful for my son. He had no focus in life except for always wanting to be a Navy Seal since he was 13. It wasn't until his cousin started training for the Air Force that he got serious about his dream. He decided not to go the SEAL route but that's okay with me. He's now 24 and at this point is planning to make a career of the Navy. My husband and I have seen our son mature so much in the last three years. We could see the change immediately after basic training. I'm glad to be a part of the special community of Navy Moms.

Thanks for the welcome. I am having a good time figuring out what all this site has and can do. My daughter turns 21 on July 30th. This will be the first time we have not been together on her birthday. Can you tell me what to send her to make her day special for her?

My son Aaron is 17 and will be a senior this year. He has been involved with soprts and the Boys and Girls Club for years. He wants to be a physical rehabilitator or something related in that area. He had talked of going to San Diego State, but a few months back said he wanted to join the Navy. I was surprised, but supported his decision. We called a recruiter and this morning I signed released papers. He takes his tests and goes to MEPS on Monday. I am so proud of him. I am nervous about him being so far away (after he leaves for boot camp), but his recruiter says he will be in good hands. I am still learning how to navigate through the website, but I am getting the hang of it. I look forward to getting to know everyone.

Thank you for the warm welcome, my son Justin is 18, he graduated from High School on June 6th and he left for boot camp on July 9th. I am not sure how long it will be before he can write. ustin got a 120,000.00 scholarship from the Navy for school, he is going to be in Pensecola after boot camp, he is going to do somthing with Helicopters.
I am not sure when his gradutaion date is from boot camp, but it can't come soon enough.
I live in Kerrville, is there any moms that lives close?

I know you are very busy, but I just wanted to see if you could offer my son some advice. He just was offered placement in the nuke program, and will be swearing in Monday morning. He won't be going in until April, which I've heard that the length of time is normal for that program. He scored 89 on his asvac test. Jordons always been a pretty intelligent kid, but never applied himself in high school or in his first year of college. Currently his gpa is 2.2!!! UGH!!! I feel like Jordon will do good, and he's already said that hes going to go ahead and register for the fall semester to take physics and chemistry classes. This is completely unlike him, so I'm hoping the navys already had a positive effect on him. I've looked over the forums, and notice that although alot of these kids are ecstatic about starting, many are flunking out. Of course, I'd never relay any of this information to my son...What I'd like to know, is there any type of advice you can offer my son to help him succeed in this program? If you could email me a response, I'd greatly appreciate it instead of using this webpage. I'm new to this, and it's very hard to navigate as I"m on dial up and i've not quite familiar with how to get my comments...Becky westlandranch@earthlink.net
This is Tena, from OHIO-(my post is below) again and if anyone is going to Great Lakes, DO NOT stay at the RED CARPET INN close to the base. We started there and had to leave because of the carpets left our feet black and the whole place had some sort of mold, the service was terrible. We left there and went around the corner to the DAYS INN and they were wonderful. They are very clean and have new serta beds, and they are just as close.
Thank-You for getting back with me. I would love to talk with anyone who is going through the same thing. I have done nothing but cry since I got back from his graduation. Thanks, Tena

Thanks for the welcome. My son left Spokane today for basic training. I am very proud but am still at the crying stage. He just called to say he arrived safely. I think this site will be helpful.
