You sure did a lot of driving!
It's amazing how the Navy transforms these "boys" into polite young men. I'm so glad that you got to spend some time with Rob. My guess is that he also spent a lot of time with his friends. It comes with that age.
I spent 6 hours in the ER on Friday the 5th and was sent home with antibiotics for diverticulitis. On Monday I was admitted to the hospital for 3 days because I wasn't getting better. IV antibiotics and tons of IV fluids made the difference. I'm feeling better each day so am encouraged.
This afternoon I'll be driving 2 hrs north of here to the Boundary Waters to help one of my sisters who is building a new house mostly by herself. Like many of the residents up there she'll be living "off the grid" with no electricity. She plans to install solar panels and a rain water collecting system in the Spring. I have no desire to live like that - I want a flushing toilet and a hot shower!
For many years it's been a dream of hers to live like this. She had cancer a few years ago and survived radical surgery and radiation therapy that almost killed her. I admire her strength and determination.
I hope you are able to solve your problems without too much difficulty and maintain peace within yourself. Take care my friend. Hugs.

So Lisa - tell me all about being at PIR and seeing Rob!
I was able to spend 3 days with Jim and my 2 girls. It was so good to see them. I caught a virus and spent my last day there in bed. The 500 mile trip home seemed to take so long with stopping to use the rest room at just about every gas station along the way. I'm still sick but doing better.
I hope you had a peaceful Christmas and are enjoying your sailor.
Hugs.

Lisa, Josh called several times from Recruit Heaven and he said they did not make Hall of Fame (and unfortunately, he did not make 1 or 2. He did get a 4.74 out of 5.0 - not bad). I guess we will have to wait and see on Wed. Have a safe trip.

Woohoo!!!!!!!!! You and Rob must be so proud right now. Congratulations. Not only will you see a Sailor at his graduation but you will see a new Man. He will have a whole new way of carrying himself and talking to others. I was so impressed to be surrounded by so many wonderful young men and women.
Jim called me twice yesterday. At first to tell me that he and he had left the base and the second call was to tell me how beautiful the Appalachian Mts. are - we both love nature. I called him at & this morning and he was already with his sister at a Perkins in Milwaukee. Jim and his buddies decided to drive to save money. Now after hearing about all of the sailors whose flights were canceled I think they may also have saved time!
Hugs to you

Lisa, how do you know they made Hall of Fame. When I talked to Josh yesterday, they said that they didn't know who made it yet. What time did Rob call you yesterday? Josh called right after 3:00 my time which is 5:00 there.

Hi Lisa! Only 1 week until Rob's PIR !!!!!! I'm so glad that you will be going to the ceremony. These guys are told not to do too much hugging with women so don't feel bad if Rob acts less affectionate than normal. He can hug you more later =) !!!!!!
Are you settled in at your new place now? Have your decided to look for a job?
I got a nice phone call from Jim today. His classes are difficult but he's doing well with them. I'll drive to Milwaukee from Minnesota to see him for a few day after Christmas. My kids decided to spend Christmas with their dad this year. I think they're trying to make up for lost time. I'm feeling a bit cheated but I won't tell them that - I don't want to take away from their pleasure of having a good time with their dad.
I hope you are doing better - let me know what's going on. If we don't "talk" soon, I hope you have a wonderful Christmas - enjoy your Sailor and give him lots of hugs!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Lisa, Just wanted to check in on you and see how you and your sailor are doing. Got back from PIR this passed Monday and I was a mess...but I'm doing better now. My sailor is in Pensacola already but I hear school there is backed up so I don't know how long she will be there but she is able to call now so that is good. It's weird picking up the phone and hearing "hey mama" after so long at boot camp. :) But obviously, it is something I enjoy. Well, write back and let me know what's going on with you and take care of yourself. :) Mary

Lisa - I had a very nice quiet Thanksgiving. None of my 3 kids were with me but I did have a nice phone conversation with each of them - I even got to talk to them again today.
Jim is in the top 25% of his class in nuke school so he no longer has 3 hours of required study time from 6 to 9 PM every evening. Of course he will still study but now he can set his own schedule.
When Rob gets to A school he will have a more normal life than he has in BC. He'll be able to have his cell phone, computer, TV, CD player, etc.... His room will most likely have a microwave and small refrigerator in it. If all A schools are the same, he will be in "phase 1" for the first 4 weeks and will have to wear his uniform any time he is out of his room, won't be allowed to drive a vehicle and will have a curfew but will be able to go off base. In phase 2 they only have to wear Navy clothes for Navy activities and can wear civies the rest of the time. With prior permission, they can even stay off base on a weekend night
Most of the times that I called Jim he was studying and couldn't answer is phone so he returned my call either that day or sometime later that week when he had the time to talk. I still send him mail and home made cookies and brownies. These guys can buy just about anything when they live on base but they can't buy Mom's home cooking.

Lisa - I hope you have a peaceful and blessed Thanksgiving today. I'm thinking about you and your family =)
Jim was invited to dinner at one of his nuke buddy's aunts house about 2 hours from base. Greg's aunt was delighted that Jim ate 4 helpings of everything. I would like to have had him here with me but am glad that he was able to get away from school, kick back and relax at someone's house rather than having to stay on base. I miss him.
Hugs

Oh i forgot when you check in at the hotel, make sure you put your names on the shuttle list, because they didnt tell us that we checked in and we had to wait for the next shuttle to take us to PIR, eat breakfast at 6 or 6 30 am and take the first shuttle out and you will have no problems at all getting there and getting a good seat!!

Lisa, no problem at all, you will enjoy the hotel it very nice and very quiet, good food too!! I did cook for Freddie at at the hotel I made him some Chile Verde and homemade tortillas lol... He was in heaven eating home made food. Just remember to wear comfortable shoes you will have to walk a ways to get to the Drill Hall and its very cold.

Lisa, are you thinking he is still in the reserves program? The AECF requires a six year enlistment because the Navy provides so much schooling for them on the front end. I am not familiar with the AECF program being offered to reservists but wil try to ask some folks that are smarter than I am!

My husband was an FC for 10 years and our son finished A school today for FC. He PIR-ed back in April.

Hi Lisa, not sure if I can offer any help to you or not but read your post about your son. Is he still going in as a reserve? But he has been placed in AECF? AECF is advanced electronics/computer field and it is a great rate that offers about 18-24 months of schooling. They stay in GL for A school after bootcamp and A school can last from 5 -7 months. It varies as it is a self-paced program. Our son finished A school yesterday - it was about six months long in his case. He will graduate as an FC. The students in this program are either ETs or FCs and had to score well on their ASVAB to qualify for the program, they also need to qualify for a secret security clearance. Once they complete A school, they move on to their C school. Their C school location and duration is determined by the system that they will be working on in the future. They won't know this until they are just shy of graduatng from their A school. If you go to the AECF group, both job descriptions are posted and lots of information about the rates. Our son was offered nuclear as well but wanted FC as my husband was an FC for 10 years. Please let us know if you have questions.
