I grew up in WI, U of MN undergrad and OU for Law School - came to OK not knowing anyone here and had never been here prior - random choice for school!! Have been here since '77 and after law school pretty much lived in Edmond - Oak Tree. Met hubby in law school.
Alana and Lane graduated from Edmond North. Alana, as you know, is in med school, and Lane is a soph at OU - chem major (pre-med) and lives in the Sigma Alpha Epsilon house. He could elect the Navy route too as a means of paying for med school - plus his girlfriend is pre-med and has shown an interest in Alana's Navy scholarship.
Do you ever get on the chat page? I tend to read the chat to learn about the Navy, rather than actively "chat". Have "met" a few other Okies on the chat and could cross paths with Lori in Tulsa one day - she has 2 sons and a daughter-in-law in the Navy.
Patti:
Just got back from lunch with Alana. And, we were talking about you! She said in summer, when back from Off. Dev. School, maybe she can get some of the other sailors from med school together to visit you - she thought with your son so far away, you might like to visit with other Navy members his age group. I know one lives local - Bethany area. That sailor's family "took Alana in" for Thanksgiving since Mark and I were out of town.
Patti:
Welcome to the Tinker Group. Told my daughter (sailor) of your offer - she said she could fill out the table with other sailors in med school at OU!! Alana is Navy Med in med school with a number of other "sailors" - 2 from the Naval Academy. I'm not a seasoned Navy mom, but like you, joined this group to be of help to sailors at Tinker and their moms at a distance.
Whoa...it sure has been a while since I've been on N4M!! Yeah, we are all moved and settled, then Gabe came home on a surprise leave! He literally called us from his connecting airport and said he needed to be picked up in two hours. He is now in Little Creek for music training. Yep, he got switched to Navy vocalist. He'll be there for 6 months then will choose a band. He thinks he wants to go to Japan, but we'll see. How is Stu doing? Do you hear from him often? Hope you and all your loved ones are well!!
Thank you for the prayers. Just thought I would give you a qucik update.. Duran called on Saturday and they are planning on sending him to Tripler army hospital in Hawaii. He didnt have a date yet, but hopefully soon. Hopefully they will get him the tests and treatment he needs. I hate being this far away from him. I dont know when I have ever been so stressed in my life. Thanks again for the prayers and support and I will keep you posted.
Hi Patti...
Things have bee so crazy I don't even know where to start. Duran is not do very well at all :( The doctors of course are not working nearly fast enough to figure out what is wrong with him. The blackout episodes are happening more frequently and now he is have some seizure activity with them. I guess the good news is that his blood work came back perfectly fine.. bad news is we are back to square one. When I spoke to him yesterday the dr. thinks now (this is about the 3rd or 4th... "I think you have"....) Neurocardiogenic Syncope, which is where is blood presssure is too high or too low or his heart rythm is irregular and is causing the blackouts. The REALLY scary part is it can cause cardiac arrest and sudden death. ( (I don't even like typing that) Of course the are scheduing him for MORE tests. So far the EKG's are picking up a murmur and some irreguarities but the CAT scan came back ok. Please say a prayer for him. Hope all is well with you and your family. How is Stu enjoying his trip???
Hey Patti...I do remember you. I hope your daughter didn't get into too much trouble. Mike's been gone for 8 days. I got to talk to him Sunday and he's doing really well. Thank you so much for contacting me. I'm really excited about going to GL to see Mike graduate. How's your son doing?
Hi Patti,
I do have the address, but I am very leary about putting it on the computer.. even email. I am probably being overly cautious.. but better safe than sorry :) I will gladly share it with you, but I would rather give it to you over the phone. Let me know when is a good time to call you, or you can call me.
Hugs,
Kim
Wow! Thanks for all the info! I know Cody had wanted to go to Sears Tower, but I will definately check into the Chase Tower! Do you remember how much the division shirts are? I hate carrying cash, but it looks like I'm going to have to.
I won't be going for the overnight, but am trying to talk my husband into going for part of Saturday. I have Fibromyalgia and had a bad flare up last weekend. I am hoping my husband will agree to go because we both like blues and bbq.
Awe, I'm glad he likes it, hopefully Cody will like it more in 4 weeks when he's done with basic. And I'm going to his PIR, hopefully it will be nicer there then it will be here in July! Any good tips for the trip? I could use any advice!
I don't know for sure if I will be there or not. There are 3 Navy mom's from Tulsa going Friday and staying all day Saturday also. I have to talk to my husband before I decide. Have a good weekend.
Hi Patti,
Duran got a cell phone from the Nex there in Guam. I think that's what most of the guys there have. I believe it's a pay as you go phone. As I understand that's about the most inexpensive way to go besides Vonage. I can't wait for Duran to call me so I can ask if he knows Stuart. I met another Houston mom on here... Rebecca.. and it's sounds like Duran knows her son. It's so nice to meet another Houston mom!
Well Cody and I arn't married yet, we've set the date for Dec 18th, 2010. But he joined in 09/08 but he didn't leave for basic until May 12th. How's your son liking the Navy?
No, I have been to HI yet. We were supposed to go this summer, but my youngest son graduated high school last month. With all the expenses of graduation, we decided to wait. Also, we did not know for sure when our sailor will be on the island. His boat was in dry dock until a few months ago, so we don't know his schedule yet.
Hi Patty! Good to know another Okie Mom! My son considered Guam before deciding on Hawaii instead. I am glad mainly because of the time difference. 5 hours ((Daylight Savings Time) is hard enough. We can usually talk around 11 am our time when he first wakes up or 10 pm which is about when he gets off work on good days. I am in 2 of your Groups; Sub Moms & Ok Navy Moms. I will also be joining the Catholic Moms group since I found it on your page! What part of OK are you in? I am in NE. Hope to talk again soon.
Hi Patti, My name is Kim and I saw that your son Stuart is going to be on the USS Houston. My son is a Sonar Tech on the Houston. He has been in Guam for a little over a year. What is Stuart's rate? I live in Arizona now, but I was born and lived in Wichita Kansas until I was 19.. so I am a midwest girl too!!..LOL I have alot of family from OK. I would love to connect and talk sometime. If I can be of any help, please don't hesitate to ask :)
