Thanks for the welcome. My son is 27 and joined the Navy in Aug of 2004. He is on the Lake Erie out of Honolulu. He met his wife in Hawaii and they have been married for nearly 3 years. She is not in the Navy and works on base currently in the gift shop/photo taking with the Missouri. He was trained for firefighting with Damage Control but has not been doing that aboard the ship.

Hi,
Thanks for the welcome. My sailor is assigned to the frigate Halyburton and works on turbines. His port is Mayport, Florida, but right now he is out on deployment and should be back pretty soon. I plan on being in Mayport to welcome him back and to bring him home for his leave. He joined the navy while in high school and after graduation in 2007 he went to boot camp in June of same year. I am really proud of him and what he has accomplished thus far. He is really a fine, sweet young man and I pray he will stay that way. Again thanks for the welcome and keep in touch. Jo

Hi there Karen,
thanks so much for the welcome greeting. I am so excited for my daughter and the adventures she is facing. However, I am secretly scared to death! Also, I am dealing with an identical twin being left behind. I have three daughters one being the twin of the new sailor! She is dealing with being separated from her twin for the first time in her life, moving out into her own place with her older (twenty months older) sister, being on her own, her first job, etc, etc. I've done such a good job teaching them to be independent, strong young women but now they have so many new encounters, just mom worries, I am certain they can all handle it.

Basic training... any help on what to help her get ready? I've been with my girls through 6 years of NJROTC but it isn't the same thing for sure. Bailey's job after BC is going to be Aviation Boatsmate. She will be going to Pensacola for A school, so we'll at least be able to take a weekend and visit. We are in Orlando area. Whew,
Anyway, thanks for any words of encouragement. She leaves September 14. (another issue for twin left behind, their 18th birthday is September 28. Going to be tough when they have always shared that day!!!:(
Thanks for everything,
Brittany

Hi Karen,

Thank you for warm welcome. My son, Eric, left for boot camp on June 22nd. We received a letter from him a few days ago advising us of his graduation in mid-August. My husband and I are very excited for him but at the same time miss him terribly. He is our first born and our only son. We've never been apart from him so long and it's been so difficult but it has has been Eric's dream to serve in the military. He's had some training already through the NJROTC program at the high school so he had an idea of what things would be like in the military. We're very proud of him and support him fully. Eric's job field is nuclear engineering. Can't wait to see him in August...

Thanks for the welcome and Congratulations to your son for finishing A school. My son is 19 and decided to join after a year at community college. He is very excited and a little nervous. He has never been away from home for longer than a weekend. Today he is making his third trip to MEPS to sign his contract. He is expectind to join the DEP group but is willing to go if they have an opening for him sooner. He wants to enter the Dive program or Rescue Swimmer program. He has been a "water-bug" his whole life. I am very new at all this....just trying to take it a day at a time. I have found this site to be extremely helpful. Thanks again .

Thanks for the welcome! I am so very new at all this. My son leaves September 14 for boot camp. I am excited for him and so very scared at the same time. I am a single mom and have rarely ever been away from him so this is going to be a first for us both. He is excited and seems to be ready to go. He is more ready than I! Any bits of preparedness info will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks alot for the wonderful Welcome. My son left for boot camp on June 22 as of today he has 4 weeks left of boot camp. He is my 1st child and only son. I miss him so much. I write to him almost everyday. He job field is Culinary Specialist. Does anyone know anything about this type of Job. I was not to happy about the job field he picked but I am here to support him. He was in the delayed entre program. He joined the Navy because he wanted to. We did not pressure him. So as long as he is happy I am happy. I am looking forward to seeing him on August 14 this is his graduation date.

My son has a ship date of Nov. 17, is supposed to be an equipment operator in the Seabees, and is from Michigan. He had his physical etc, back on Jan. 7 but was told he had to wait that long to get in the Seabees, which is what he really wants. Now doing the DEP program and waiting to ship. I am anxious a bout it all but know this is what he needs to do and fully support his decision. I think it is one of the best things for him.

Hi. Thanks so much for the welcome! My son leaves for boot camp on Sept 22. From there he will be going to Sub school in Connecticut. We are very proud of him but also very sad, he is my youngest of 2 boys, and his leaving will mean that I have an empty nest.

Hi Karen, Thanks for the welcome. My son has been in the Navy for 4 years. He is currently stationed at Norfolk. He was transferred there in April after being in Goton for about 2 years. I am proud to say he is a nuke. The Navy has been a great experience for him. It has been a wonderful journey watching him change and grow.

hi Karen Thanks for the welcome but I am actually not a "Navy Mom" I am thinking about going into the Navy myself. I am 27 years old and graduated with my masters degree. I will complete a year at NCDOC in Nov but really dont like the job and have wanted to go into the Navy for a long time (this will be my third time trying to join-other two times didnt work out due to an injury and then the process just stopped) My uncle was in the Navy and I have heard that its a great branch to join

Thank you for the welcome. My son just completed his ASVAB and MEPS. He goes tomorrow for his meeting with the navy classifier. He is excited - I am worried. I just want them to do right by him. He is very trusting and sociable - has a heart of gold. I do not want him to change.
