Navy seeks new recruits via Moms
Arizona Daily Star
Tucson, Arizona | Published: 10.11.2008
In an effort to attract new recruits, the U.S. Navy has launched a Web-based campaign aimed specifically at mothers — an idea so innovative experts predict it will one day be copied by other branches of the military.
About a dozen Tucson moms are in on the ground floor of the new Navy effort, NavyforMoms.com — a sort of Myspace for military matriarchs.
The site was launched in response to research that showed mothers were more likely to believe other mothers than recruiters, a Navy official said.
Read about the new recruiting campaign in Sunday's Arizona Daily Star.

Hi Sandy,
My son was the same way, as I think most of them in the program are. They won't willingly go to the infirmary for anything. If they get sent there, sometimes that holds them up or they get rolled back. I would just say to tell your son to keep up the good work. If he ever calls you feeling down or having a bad day, just listen and let them get out their feelings. Tell them it is normal for them to have those feelings, get them out and move on. My son did well, but had a few times where he called and really was down and didn't think he wanted to do the program anymore. You just have to tell them to buck up and they will get through it, tell him that this is what he wants! My son told me later that those talks helped him, that he just needed someone to tell him that. Sometimes they just need to talk to someone at home or get things in the mail from home. Pictures, letters, anything that reminds them of home. When my son finally got to Jacksonville, he hooked up his computer to the internet so we could chat online with the cameras. That helped the both of us!! Hang in there, I think the toughest part is over for you. The toughest part for your son to come will probably be the SERE training, but he will get through that too! My son said he is glad he went through it and experienced it but would not want to do it again. You can write to me anytime if you have questions or just need to vent. I have been there, so I know how it is! HUGS to you and your son! Tell your son it will be soooooo worth it to stick it out. My son says it is the best job in the Navy!

Josh is still in Great Lakes. He will be going to Pensacola hopefully in a month or so. He's anxious to get down there. Too many people screwing up and causing lock downs on the base. Nice to hear back from you. Please keep in touch.

Sandy, it was great getting to meet you & your family.
Matthew called me this morning (at 5am) to let me know that he was being sent to A school , Meridian MS today (Wednesday).
I hope Travis is doing well. It's kind of strange now that they are out of BC. I'm like 'what do I focus on now?'

Hi Sandy,

I figured you were already in MI and getting ready to drive to GL. I am jealous. Please give Travis a hug for me and tell him I am proud of him. I hope the family enjoys the graduation, I know you Mom will be very proud. Your Dad is looking down from Heaven and smiling at Travis's accomplishments. Enjoy your time with Travis.
Hugs,
Joan

Hi Sandy

Glad to hear that Travis is doing good. Wed maybe the "travel" day, Joyce said that is when Bryan left for his new stations and my Bryan tells me he thinks he is leaving on the Wed after graduation also. Are you staying and spending some time in GL with Travis? I heard from Bryan yesterday, a really short one page letter. Is doing good, has the crud right now and can't seem to get over it. He is looking forward to graduation and getting to FL. Hope you have a great time at his graduation. Wish we were going too :(
Hugs
Joan

We just received a quick call from Travis, they let them place a quick call while their group was at the store. He is feeling better. He continues to pass his tests, need to take another PSA?? test this week, but he’s already past the requirements before. He is scheduled to go to Florida on 7/9, said that is Grad and Go, because it is so close to graduation. He’s lost a lot of weight, not sure how much. His aircrew group will all go to FL, so he’s happy about that, since they’ve all “bonded.” He said he earned an extra phone call because he got 100% on a test, maybe he can call on Sunday. He thinks he will get an additional call with more details about graduation.

Hi Sandy - It was nice meeting you too. That was very nice. I hope we can do it again soon. I agree, things are kinda crazy with me too. I am planning on going to the PIR get together. I hope you will be there as well. We shouldn't have any trouble finding eachother there.

Hi Sandy,
Matthew wrote last week, but all he talked about was the tornado that went through that Saturday (June 7) I should be getting another letter tomorrow. I'll let you know if he has any updates for Division 243 as far as if they know when Battlestations will be or what week # they are on, etc....

Hi Tina. I'm so glad to meet another person that has a connection to Division 243. No, I don't have any informaiton from Travis about graduation. We talked to him on 6/4, and haven't received any letters or updated information since. The not hearing/knowing anything is very difficult, isn't it. Please let me know if you receive any updated informaiton from your husband. What type job is your husband signed up for?
