He called

My son called last Wednesday, he sounded well. He said he had passed his swim test and has taken his physical testing - he ran the 1.5 miles faster than required. He said the food is good and boot camp isn't as bad as he expected. He said it is hard, but he is glad he decided to join the Navy, he said he feels like it was the right decision for him.
I got his graduation packet in the mail yesterday. I am really looking forward to seeing him graduate boot camp.
I have been checking out plane tickets, they aren't cheap, escpecially the refundable ones they recommend we buy, just in case he graduates later........
Anyone with this plane ticket experience? I don't fly much.......
They did send a pamplet with hotels and such listed on it.
They pulled his wisdom teeth, is this something they usually do?

I looked online for tickets, then called the airline to ask about refundable - I was told that non-refundable tickets could be exchanged for a future flight (same passenger name) to be used within one year for a fee (usually $100) NOT that we would lose the entire cost of the tickets. We didn't have to change dates (luckily) but that was a huge relief to me to know that we weren't risking $2000.

Sorry, I missed the part about wisdom teeth - yes, mine had all four of his out. If they even suspect that they will cause problems later they go ahead and remove them during boot camp, rather than dealing with it when they are at a duty station.

Hi Joyce,
That is good to find out about the airline tickets, thank you. Hopefully we won't need to change them either. I never really thought about the wisdom teeth before he told me that, but I could see their point on removing them. I hear the graduations are really something to see. I am really looking forward to seeing it.
