My boyfriend was sent to ship 17 Nov 20th. As of today, Dec 1st he still hasn't seen legal! I wanted to know if anyone here has someone on the ship that is also waiting to go home.

My daughter went to ship 17 on Nov. 20th also, She went to indoctrination today and was told she will probably see legal next week and then go home around one week after that.

whats indoctrination? my bf was supposed to get his shots today in order to be sent home. i called legal today to get an update and she couldnt really discuss his case with me bc he hadnt signed the privacy waiver. she did say they have his separation paperwork and will call him in a couple of days. but i dont know if thats just to sign the privacy waiver or to sign all the other paperwork to go home! Do you think they would allow family memebers to book a flight home for them, just so they could come home faster? did they say why it would take them till next week to have your daughter see legal?

Kim the travel plans can't be made until they do all their paperwork. Three days before they get sent home they get the date. The navy may pay for the flight or may not. At that point the recruit can choose to pay for his own ticket or if they don't have enough money, the family can talk to the section that handles transportation plans, and give a credit card number to charge it on.
I understand that indoctrination is a talk about Ship 17 rules, and what will happen. Your BF needs to speak to his chief about what the holdup is getting to Legal. It then takes at least a week for them to do their paperwork to get to the point of sending him home.

I told him to def. speak to someone TODAY about whats taking so long. Im also going to call legal today just to check and see if they'll be calling him tomorrow, to sign the privacy waiver or the paperwork to go home or both!
He mentioned that family cant book any flights home, its shame bc i found some pretty good prices!

The travel plans can't get made until 3 days before they leave. At that point you can look up deals and see what can be done. It is a shame, but they have their routine and that is it.
If he has a RDC who likes him he can possibly get help to push things along there.
We have more access to info outside of boot camp than they do. I found I had to be my son's advocate, and he had quite a number of trips to Legal as a result. He says he was glad his ship was close to the building where Legal was lol

lol. Thats good. Im hoping to get good news today! I hope he can do something to help the process along there too!

He needs to respectfully keep asking questions, Kim. Read through some of the discussions in Ship 17 moms. alot of the questions are answered there.Helps to know what questions to ask at boot camp to speed the process. He needs to follow the paperwork, make sure all the i's are dotted and t's crossed. No missing signatures of initials. any of that can hold things up.

I will. I told him yesturday( he had a 10min phone call) to make SURE! he follows the paperwork! To make sure nothing gets lost on someones desk. He told me he was going to talk to his P.O. today to try and find out what the hold up is. I spoke to legal a few minutes ago and she said she'll call him in her office today to sign the privacy waiver, this was she can speak with me about his case. She was very nice about it, im just hoping to hear that hell be called tomorrow to start signing things, since it can take up to two weeks to get him home after that!

Hi Kim,
Our son was placed in Ship 17 on December 18th. We taled to him on December 27th and he had been to Legal and hopes to be discharged this week. But we haven't heard from him on over a week. Have you heard any thing from your boyfriend? I find it hard waiting and not knowing. Polly
