My daughter left for Great lakes on Aug 9th. She is in Div 209 Ship 11. I received the 20 sec phone call on the 10th at around 12:15 AM. I also got a 1 page letter on the 18th and the form letter with the 3 personal lines at the bottom on the 21st. She sounds good, did say the first two nights were tough but she is getting used to it. besides that, she hasn't mentioned anything else that the division done.
Thats about all the info I have, if anybody else has a son or daughter in the same Division I would love to hear form you.
We will be flying on Thursday and staying at the Navy Lodge too. I am looking forward to meeting you and all the other Navy families. A little less than a month to go, woohoo!
Hi Denise, I think that would be a great idea to try and meet Thurs. night.
I just got a letter, Ryan said someone called the girls stupid and they got intensive training for 2 hours with no water break, I would hope they learned a lesson.
Dinah
Dinah, I am sorry but that story made me laugh. We got a letter today as well. No mention of that story. She did tell me that some guy requested to go to medical and left town. She heard rumor he was picked up in VA. Wonder what will happen to him now.
Lets do all try to meet up on that Thursday. Not sure where any suggestions? I am counting down the days
I think that would be great to meet someplace on Thursday evening. I agree with Denise, that is a funny story. We'll be arriving around 11:00 Thursday morning how about you Denise?, Dinah and I found out earlier that we will be on the same flight from West Palm.
Carol,
Wow you and Dinah on the same flight. To think if it were not for this web site you two would have flown together not even knowing each other were headed to the same thing. Small world. We arrive at Ohare at 3:45 in the afternoon. Flying out of Philly, pick up the luggage and rental then head to the base. Don't know how long that will take. We have to meet up with my parents at the motel sometime that night as well. They will be driving in for the ceremony then heading out the next morning to other destinations. Must be nice to be retired and travel all summer long.
Denise
ps how come I your last message does not have a reply tab? I swear I am an idiot when it comes to computers. I couldn't figure out how to reply to it.
You are right about the web site without it I would never have met so many nice moms of great kids.
I don't know why it didn't have a reply tab. I get confused here too. I know I have sent messages to people that they didn't get them because I posted them in the wrong place. But I am ashamed I should be better at this since I work in the computer department even though I don't do much web stuff. I should be able to handle this. I think I just get so excited about the news I read I don't take time to think before I write.
My name is Carol and my daughter, Ashley left for boot camp April 14th. She is in DIV 209, Ship 11 too. It looks like June 6th is PIR for our kids. She will be going to A school at Damneck, Va. Ashley had to call me to get some paperwork and she told me the first few lines she wrote on the Navy letter, she wrote in pen, so the RDC tore it up and threw it away because they told her to write in pencil. I guess they gave her another chance because I got the Navy letter with a couple of lines written in pencil anyway.
We got her first real letter last Wednesday 4/23, its not too bad (not much worse than military school). I'm hoping for another letter tomorrow. Ashley says they are allowed to write on Sundays. I'm sure our kids have met by now.
This is a great way to share information, an make new friends.
Hi there, my son left on April 14 too, but he is in DIV 930 Ship 06. Do they just put them in random divisions? I would have thought anyone starting on April 14 would be together. He says his PIR is june 13th. I haven't gotten a letter, but I did speak to him a few times regarding info that needed to be faxed. After he received the fax, I got another call a few days later regarding different info he needed. I kind of didn't want to send all of the info so he could call again, but I didn't want him to get in any trouble. He has inspection on Monday and they are removing his wisdom teeth on Tuesday 5/6. I'm sure he really misses those days of sleeping in til 'whenever'. Overall, it appears he's happy with his decision to join.
I'm not sure how they assign Divisions and ships. I think I read somewhere that the recruits in the Division with 900s have some special talent (like playing an instrument, signing etc.) but I'm not sure. I just assumed it was based on when you arrived at camp. If he is graduating on 6/13, I would look for a phone call this weekend. My daughter called last Monday at 4 PM EST and Ashley will graduate 6/6. So he may call you so keep your phone handy. I hope you get your call. Maybe everybody will get a call for Mother's Day. Wouldn't that be great.
