Tina -- James' mom

Anyone with a child leaving for Great Lakes the week of May 5?

My son is leaving for GL from Atlanta on May 7. I have no idea what time, flight, etc., yet. I was wondering if there is anyone else out there with a child leaving around that same time. They may end up together at GL. I'd love to have a "buddy" to go thru basic training with...lol.

My son's PIR was 3/21 which was 7 weeks and 2 days from the day he arrived in Great Lakes - which surprised the heck out of me. I think it has something to do with how many are needed to 'fill' a division and may also be determined by how quickly they get thru the processing days . . . ?

Hi Tina -

I just found this website. I didn't even know it existed. My son, Josh, left for Great Lakes on May 7th. I talked to him when he arrived on the evening of the 7th, but nothing since. He said that he wouldn't be able to call again for 2-3 weeks. He hung out at Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix with a couple other guys. I hope they were able to stick together when they got to bootcamp. One of the guys was from Tuscon. Not sure where his other "new" friend was from. He mentioned that they all wished it was the last day, rather than the first. I have no address or any other information yet. I just keep waiting............

Bev,

Welcome aboard...hang on, it's a wild ride. This is a great site with a great group of moms. Do you know ship and division for your son yet? Call the recruiter first thing tomorrow morning. He/she should have it. Then start writing.

If you have ANY questions, please don't hesitate to ask. This is a great group of moms. You'll love it here.

Hi Tina -

Yes, this is definately an adventure. I received Josh's box yesterday (Tuesday) and received the letter today (Wednesday). Josh is in Div 238 - Ship 11. I haven't seen the same info on anyone else's post. Josh was able to write four lines on his letter. He said that "training is tough, but it seems to be going well." He also stated that graduation was on July 3rd. I've given his address to everyone I can think of.

Everyone on here is awesome! We will all get through this........together.

Hi Ann -

Josh is in Div 238 - Ship 11. I received his letter today. He seems to be doing ok. He was very athletic before he went in, so hopefully that part is going well. I can tell he misses his mom and dad. His final comment on his "letter" was "take care and I love you both very much."

Deep breaths.....................

My son left for GI May 5 from Myrtle Beach, SC. He also is in Div236 ship07. My son's name is Steven my name is Connie. This is our first time in the Navy, my other son was in the air force. I am very nervous and anxious about Steven. He is my baby and now we are empty nesters.

I'm a psycho! Pam can attest to that.

Wecome, aboard anyway. It looks like Steven will graduate a week before Phillip (Pam's son) and James (my son). I'm not sure how that worked out because they all left at the same time, but our sons are in the next group.

Pam ~~ I didn't know you were a southern girl, too. I live in Macon, GA, so we're sorta neighbors.
