Navy For Moms

I have been saying lots and lots of prayers. I know that Drew has been working very hard. He called and has been asmoed to FIT. He was 20 seconds over on his run so he didn't pass his PFA. :(

I am crying right now, more than I have since he has been gone. He says he is going to keep trying. But I know he won't get to graduate with his division. I know he is being moved away from him friends, his support system, and everything he has known for over 7 weeks. Battle stations is today, and he isn't there with him. We are still going to Chicago. I need to see my boy. I don't even think he will get his birthday card, but I don't think the mail follows them very well. I didn't get to talk to him, he left a message on my machine. He did call the Chief at his recruiting station, though. The Chief told him not to let it get him down. He said it was only 20 secs. It just stinks big time that he won't get to graduate like everyone else, and that we won't get to see him graduate and come in those big doors.

In his last letter, he said he wants to see Iron Man so bad, and that he hoped it would still be in the theaters next week when we went. Now we get to visit him for two hours a day, and he doesn't get to leave the base, or even the Public Affairs Office I think. My heart is breaking for my boy. Maybe it's a good thing I didn't get to talk to him. The chief was probably the best person for him to talk to ...

Dianne,

My heart breaks for you, and know you and Drew are in alot of people's prayers.
My son, Josh, is in a holding ship in GL A school. He did not do well on his tests at Corpsman school and he /us are now waiting to see if he will be sent home or changed to another area of training. Josh called us with this news on June 4th. We have only received one other short e-mail last wednesday telling us he is waiting for them to send him to his recruiting station. He has also been on Light Duty due to a leg injury which is keeping him from doing PT with the others. I pray for you cause I know how you must feel. Good luck to you and Drew.

Candice,
I will pray for your Josh. He must be frustrated, and tired of waiting. We had a sailor, one of our teacher's son, come in today to talk to our third graders. They had made cards for him, and written to him. He was very impressive in his whites as he spoke to them. One of the students asked him which was harder, boot camp or A School. He said he would have to definitely say A School. He told them that during boot camp they got enough sleep, but during A School he only got about 5 hours of sleep per night because he was up studying. I think it was be difficult to go from being told what to do, and when to do it 24/7, to patroling your own sleep and study patterns again.

Thank you CCR, Beth, Angie, Frieda, Millye, Sheila, and everyone else who is praying for my son. We have not heard anything further. I will let you know as soon as I do.

I have to go finish up my report cards! I have to pass them out tomorrow, so I guess there's no more delay.

So sorry Dianne about your son's disappointment.I know how it is, with my son still working out his disappointments with the Navy.My son too was not that communicative, he saved his calls for his girlfriend for the most part, and she dear Johned him.He got communicative when he decided he wanted out however.LOL I spent lots of time crying over Matt, so I know how it is. It is frustrating when you can't talk to them when they are hurting. I will keep you and your son in my prayers.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I cannot thank all of you who offer support and prayers enough. It's also helpful to hear that so many recruits go through this. I didn't even get to ask him if they let him take his last academic test. He called and left a message on Thursday, at about 4:30 pm. The academic test was that morning. I am not worried about him not passing, just wondering if it is something else he will have to take after he gets the run done. He's an avid reader and has a photographic memory. Tests generally come easily to him is he's read the material. I'm guessing since that's all he has to read, that he's read it. :)

Dianne,
Sorry I didn't read this post before I left a message for you. I'll keep you both in my prayers. I know things will work out for the best. They always do... we just don't know how, why or when. Hang in there, Mom.

I am sorry to hear about Drew ... I know myself if It was my son I would have been feeling as you did...but stay positive I know with out a doubt that he will make it. He sounds very determined and is working hard at it and as long as he stays positive and you do for him he will have no problem. I will keep my fingers crossed and please let us know how he is doing. God Bless him, you and your family...

He didn't make it. He just called me again, on his 20th birthday, to tell me that he didn't pass and not to come. I just had time to get in a quick "Happy birthday" before he hung up. I am so bummed out. :( All they want to give me is a $170.00 refund on $710.00. If we don't go, we lose over $500.00 and cannot go when he does graduate. If we do go, we probably won't get to see him, and will still not be able to go when he does graduate. I don't even have an address to write him.

Did Chris make it Heidi Anne? I do so hope he did.

Dianne, we are so very sorry to hear of Drew's news and only to be compounded by it being his birthday. I know this must be really disappointing for him and for you but I think CCR captured it well - this is a "bump in the road" and he will move forward and be stronger as a result.

Big hugs to all of your family.

Oh Dianne, bummed out probably doesn't even come close to how you are feeling right now! Tracie said it well, we all just ache for you and Drew. What a rotten thing to happen on his birthday!! You remain in my prayers. Just remember, this to shall pass. Stay strong. ((((Hugs)))) to you all!!

I'm wondering if you could craigs list or ebay those tickets and recoup more?

Oh Dianne, I am so sorry, he must feel so bad especially with this being on his birthday. But there has got to be a reason for this, only God knows what path we are to follow. I believe he will pass, when the time is right for him, we just need to keep praying for strength, comfort and patience. You and Drew are loved by all of us very much, many big hugs to you.
