Things that were supposed to be allowed got sent home in our son's box as well. Can't tell you why on that. You should get the form letter very soon. They only get to write three lines on the form letter. We received a real letter from our son during the 2nd week and hope to get a phone call this week. Just post questions on this site. Someone usually knows the answer.

My daughter left for GL on the 11th. I was also surprised to receive her one piece swimsuit that she had to purchase to take their test. And Goggles.
The phone call I got from her..........she told me she would call in two weeks.
I wonder what the ratio of men to women are. I hope there are enough women so they dont feel too isolated.

I think they do issue swimsuits and the sports bras not real sure though. You should get the form letter later this week or first of next week. you are almost done with the hard part. Start writing those letters to her and number them on the back so she will know which one to open first. When josh was in BC he ask for alot of wallet size pictures nothing bigger than that since they don't have alot of room. Don't know why she would have sent her wallet home. I also did a list of questions for josh to answer and it saves them alot of time and all they have to do is answer them. When you get her address make her some labels with that address on it to save her some time and send her some for yourself. I also sent josh a large envelope with my address on it and his and the postage so that he could send home letters after about 3 weeks or so. He had to open it in front of the RDC's but they just wanted to make sure it wasn't anything in there that he couldn't have. I got the letter today. Her little note on the back said that so far it wasn't as bad as everyone had told her it would be. :-) Granted, she had only been there a couple of days when she wrote that, but I found it encouraging. Of course, she knows first-hand that boot camp is nothing like what the military is like once they get to their first duty station (she is an Air Force brat), so she just needs to focus on getting these first few months out of the way.

I noticed that the address she gave us is a bit different than the one her recruiter gave us on Saturday. Hopefully she will get the two letters I've already sent to her.

NancyEllen, I know in the Air Force the men and women are in separate flights during boot camp--I would assume that it would be the same way in the Navy.

My daughter left 06-10-08. I have yet to get a real letter. I have sent 4 letters or cards. I am hoping that by this next Thursday that maybe I will get at the very least a note from her. She is 22 and engaged so I think he maybe a bigger priority for her, which is really okay. What keeps going through my head is that I wish I could be there to encourage her. I like you, and all the other were surprised to see what was returned in "the box" The letter said I could send pens but there were pens returned. I work with people that have been in the Navy or Retired from the Navy. I also have a Step-Daughter that was in the Navy and has now been out for about 3 years. She has been really been helpful with what she knows.

My daughter told me that the women are now asked to wear a colored sport bra because the new PT shirts tend to be see through when wet. she is not in BC, she is an E5, HM2, instructor at Corps School.

We NEVER did get a form letter. Call her recruiter tomorrw & get her address. Don't take NO for an answer...They do have it or can find it! Keep pushing! There is nothing worse than waiting...she needs letters ASAP!

My daughter sent back the same stuff. They give them all that there. They only have a small place to store things. They issue them pretty much everything that they need.

The list they give them is accurate, but they really only need their Id. She said her recruiter told her to bring as little as possible. They told me if she were to bring all thats on the list, she would be made an example of. The less you bring the better.

I too am an Air Force spouse. My husband retired last year. The Navy is very different and having your child involved is different from a husband. Sometimes I feel guilty, but of course, Tim never saw my reaction to him gone because he was GONE. I always had to be strong and continue on for the kids. Somehow I don't feel that way now. We need to chat.
