Robbin,

I am Robin...great name! A school sailors can have civ clothes and would appreciate them I am sure. Keep in mind though...space is VERY limited ...bigger than bootcamp but still limited. AND they can not wear the civilian street clothes off base until they have earned the privledge to do so when on Liberty. If your new sailor is going to an A school somewhere other than in Great Lakes...it would be better to wait until they arrive at their new duty station...because what ever you take there...they will have to package and carry on to next duty station. If they are staying there at Great Lakes then I would think yes ...they usually want cell phone and laptop before they want clothes. My daughter is staying in Great Lakes for A school and I planned on taking just a few things. Then if she wants or needs more mail them to her .

My daughter is in Ship 7 Div 296. She is going to Corpsman A school after grad from BC. How about your recruit?

We brought (PIR 5/2) a few favorite clothes (gym shorts, jeans, t-shirts), baseball cap, shoes, cell phone, laptop like the 'other' Robin. Also, he REALLY was appreciative of having his regular boxers again. And, once we got there we went shopping for some really good socks that have support/wick away moisture, etc. His feet were in kinda rough shape. In one of my letters I asked him to write me a list of what to bring (of course I added in a few more things). However, our son moved to his new location in Great Lakes the same Friday of PIR. I am thinking that if he was still at RTC for a few days after PIR instead of already in his new quarters that he would not have been allowed to take these things back with him at the end of the weekend until he was in the new location. And, he also could not wear these clothes right away until he had earned the right and until enough time had passed to be in that next Phase of Liberty.

We went to Sports Authority at the Gurnee Outlet Mall :).
You will LOVE graduation - very special thing you're getting to be a part of.
After Boot Camp it is so much better - even though he isn't available all the time, I can leave a message on his cell phone or text message him or email him. You're getting there ..........
