Navy For Moms

Hello,
I am heading to Virginia on Tuesday, July 8, to go on a Tiger Cruise with my son. Has anyone been on one before and if so can you give me any information? What I should and should not bring, clothing, how much space for clothes. Any information would be great thanks.

Hello I know a little about tiger cruises on board submarines and also carriers ,my son has been on a submarine now some 10 years and a few months his"boat as they call it"has the tiger cruise also and my younger son was invited to go on one "only males on subs though"and that was the most amazing thing he said he has ever done he's 24 now that was when he was 19 and then my nephew is on carrier and he to has the tiger cruises and his father and brother went last year just normal comfy clothing and a pair of shorts"approx knee length" also no sandals, closed toed shoes only ,tanks or anything of that nature was allowed, don't forget a couple good reading material while they are working and away from you is also a good idea.

Wow, they have sub Tiger Cruises too! Way cool!

My son is heading for a sub shortly (boomer). I wonder what the odds are that my family might have that opportunity.
Any idea how often does a ship or boat do a Tiger Cruise? I have heard so much about them, but I wonder if this is something that everyone gets to do or is it pretty rare?

I thought it was something every ship did everytime they came back from deployment. This is the first time my son has been overseas, but since they cut this one short and it was only 5 months they technically call it a cruise and they can send them out on deployment again at any time. He thinks they will be gone again before Christmas. We will see.

I'm so jealous! My son was on the Roosevelt for three years, and there was never a Tiger cruise that I know of. I'd love to visit him now, but I don't think they're letting moms visit hot, mountainous, desert areas where my sailor is now.

Wow, he was on a carrier and you never got to go on a cruise. That is weird. Where was he stationed and what is his job now?

He was stationed in Norfolk. I visited five times in those three years--loved it there. Don't want to live there, but we enjoyed it every time we went. My son is a gunners mate working for the Army, but in the Navy. He's never told us he volunteered, but we know he did. Today, on the 4th of July, he's re-enlisting, maybe on the top of a mountain no where near any water!

I was on a Tiger Cruise last year aboard the USS Ronald Reagan. We sailed from Honolulu to San Diego. We had a GREAT time. I would suggest bringing a small battery operated fan for your bunk. It is close quarters. Also, you will need a lock for your locker. Not much space is allotted and remember you will be carrying all your own gear. I packed everything in one duffel bag with a few things in a backpack. Keep everything to a minimum but be sure to bring your camera..

My problem is that I am coming from California and we are going to be in Virginia for about a week. I need to take a suitcase that will fit all of my clothes for that amount of time. That is my concern and now the email is down on my son's ship so I can't get anymore information from him. One mom also said only knee length shorts, do you know anything about this.
