Navy For Moms

Would like to have everyone join in and tell everyone what they are doing with their families on this special day of celebration.

Me personally, I'm going to enjoy today spending with my granddaughter Madison and giving my son and his wife a day to themselves before he gets ready to go to boot camp in three weeks. I'm so excited that it will just be me and her for the day. :)

Hi Terri, I know how you feel. My son just graduated from boot camp. Us moms go through our own boot camp. The first two weeks will be especially difficult. Stay close to the computer and talk to us. Find other moms on N4M who have a child in the same division and ship as yours because any little news you hear about the division helps to make you feel some connection. (You should be able to get this info from his recruiter a day or two after your son leaves.) First you'll receive a 20 second call to say your son made it to GL, IL safely, then about 10 days later you will receive a box with his civilian belongings. After that, maybe a week later, you will get a form letter from the Navy. Be sure to look for the three lines for the recruit to leave a short message. Those short 3 lines will be cherished. Maybe a week later you may get a real letter from your recruit and if he is a letter writer, you may get a letter or two a week. They are only allowed to write and send mail on Sundays (or at least that's how it was for my son). At first time will drag (again stay close to N4M for support) then before you know it it will be time for graduation and that is a wonderful time. There are some web sites and a book called "Honor, Courage, Commitment" that may help you understand what is going on with your son during boot camp. Good luck to you and Jeremy.

Terri,

You are not alone in this. My son left June 22nd - tomorrow will be 2 weeks. It was so hard and yesterday on the 4th I was feeling really down but not trying to show it because I didn't want to bring my husband and youngest son down with me. My recruit son loved fireworks and I always bought a ton for him every year. My youngest is not into them like the older one. It makes me a little sad but I can't make him be like his older brother.

Hang in there. It'll be ok. Just tell yourself that he's doing what he wants to do.

I am so glad that most of you and your families enjoyed the fourth of July weekend. For those who have their son/daughters in boot camp or off to their new stations be proud of him or her and although it breaks our hearts that they are away, cling to the good times you shared together and keep them in your prayers, write lots of letters send cards anything to remind your loved one that
although they are not with you physically they are still with you in your heart.

I'm cherishing every moment I have with my son his wife and my baby grand daughter before my big guy goes off for boot camp. We all got to share the day with friends today cooking out and playing corn hole (yes it's a game) and having some laughs. Just seeing my son smile warms my soul and brings tears to my eyes knowing in three weeks (it will come soon) he'll be apart from us which that in itself will be so hard to get used to. Going to get lots of pictures and keep them around the house.

Thank you so much for sharing. Be strong and know you raised your son daughter right and be proud of them.

Talk Soon. God Bless.

:)

Well i'm a little late,it's the 7th of july, but thought I'd share what we did yesterday. We are from RI, and last night on the Newport Navy Base they had a spectacular firework display, the Navy Band (northeast) was playing, also a regular band doing all kinds of music, all kinds of food vendors, It really was great. It was open to the public and there were thousands of people there. My son who is in SC just happened to call me while we were there, I told him we all (his grandparents, aunts & uncles etc.) were there wearing our Navy tee shirts!!(Not too proud) He got a kick out of that! It really was a special time, if you weren't very patriotic when you got there, you certainly had to be by the time you left. It just brought tears to your eyes to see the pride, in our troops, our country, our vetereans!

Sounds like fun, we don't have a Navy Pier or base where I live.
