Navy For Moms

Hello,
I am heading to Virginia on Tuesday, July 8, to go on a Tiger Cruise with my son. Has anyone been on one before and if so can you give me any information? What I should and should not bring, clothing, how much space for clothes. Any information would be great thanks.

We were on the USS Nashville. We got on a bus at Norfolk and it took us down to Moorehead City, North Carolina where the LCU took us out to the ship. Once on the ship we went out into the ocean and cruised up to Norfolk. I think we went in circles at times because I don't think it is really that far away. Yes you are right, wives and girlfriends are not allowed on the cruise, but there were a lot of kids that went out to meet their dads and cruise back with them. If your sailor is stationed on the west coast I believe you fly out to Hawaii and meet them there. Then it is a 4 or 5 day cruise. It is trully something I think everyone should do if given the chance. I had no problem with sea sickness and the sea got a little rough at times.

This is how it worked for us. About a month an a half before Brian came back from deployment an invitation for the cruise was sent out to all hands on the ship. They could then foward it to who ever they wanted to invite. They payed fifty dollars apiece for each of the people they invited. Technically you are to have a sponsor of the same sex, but I never met the woman assigned to me. My son took me everywhere on the ship and just yelled "female on deck" a lot. :)

Hi Lori,

luckyyy you that you have that opportunity I prolly won't have that ever I don't think they let Parents on a Submarine.
All i know I seen a tv serious about it called "Carrier" was very interesting. I am pretty sure if you get in contact with your son he will let you know what you able to bring . Have fun :)

You might not be able to go out for a few days, but I know they have day cruises. My friend went out on one.
We had a great time, but my son is not as helpful at times as one would hope. He told us absolutely no shorts on the ship. We were one of the few in pants, everyone else had on shorts. Good thing we brought along some just in case. All in all in was fantastic and I would encourage anyone who got the chance to take it.
