Most get the option to come home for a vacation. Some as my daughter did, come home and she worked with her recruiter. Which ment she didn't have to use her vacation time, so she was home and worked with her recruiter durring the week, it was great she was at work durring the day like us but we got to have her for an extra week.

Was this before she went to A school or after?

That is exactly what my sailor will be doing this next week before C School. Working with his recruiter. Only charged for the weekend when they don't work anyway.

Nice to hear that everyone's son/daughter has gotten into their "A" school. As of last week, my son was STILL on hold.. a whole month after PIR!!!!!! GGGRRRRRR! He was taking that class to learn how to live on board ship tho, weird shift too... 3-12 pm. Has had a hard time staying awake for that class with them having to get up early in the morning for whatever they make them do. Hope he is in school or going to be this week, haven't heard if he started it yet tho.. maybe by the weekend I will hear something better! If not.. he won't have leave until Jan/Feb at this point.. good thing I am making another trip out to see him in August.........

Robin, I'm curious - what rate is your son. It sounds like he is in GL for a long time like our son. My son is also in the 3-12pm class with duty every 4th day. His class is due to finish this Friday and he is HOPING that he will be able to go directly to the ATT class on Monday without going on hold again. Is that the class your son will be taking? When did he PIR?

My guess is (and it is only a guess) the Navy knows their needs very far in advance. Although our sailors are on hold waiting for classes, I suspect that is built into their schedules and if he is due to complete A school in December - that will still happen. I believe they know exactly what day A school begins and our Sailors will know...when they need to!

My son is awaiting school for advanced electronics and that one is supposed to be for 19 weeks and his other class will be ( b or c) another 11 or 13 weeks, I just can't remember which one he got now. What do you mean by rate?? His PIR was April 18th and has the same exact duty time as your son does.

My son is scheduled to graduate from Corpsman school on July 3rd but has not received orders yet. Does anyone know if he will be able to come home for a while after the graduation if he is "on-hold", still awaiting orders?
