Navy For Moms

My son, Josh, just left for bootcamp this week. It has only been a few days, but his dad and I are a wreck. He is our oldest and the first one to leave home. Does it get easier after he is able to call home? I just need to hear that he is doing great, which I am sure he is. He was so excited to go to bootcamp. I am counting down the days to PIR and I am not even sure of the exact date of his PIR.

OH Kris did you come to the right place....We will anwser any and all questions you have and make you "wet" your pants with laughter along the way
He is FINE...the first few weeks are harder on you then him, believe me -hundreds, probably thousands have been there on this site....
Surfing the site check out dicussions and I bet, no I know you will find most of your answers here..

You will be getting "THE BOX" within the next few days....beware....some moms find it so difficult to open...it contains all the stuff that he brought with him to GL...even his dirty underwear and socks, yes mom, you can't get away from that ...LOL
Right now he is going through what they call 'P-days" {processing days}...and it means exactly what it says...he is doing everything from doctors to dentist, to getting measured for clothes to receiving a haircut...I have found that most recruits hate this days..They are very long and boring days, most of the recruites are actually looking forward to starting bootcamp...I bet he is feeling the same way
Hey drop me a line and ask away, if I can't answer it I will direct you to someone who can

Welcome Aboard and READ on girl READ on....
xoxo

Thank you so much for the encouraging words. My husband told me that it would be harder on us than on Josh. It is just hard to let go. I am so used to hearing about his days and what he is doing. I can't wait until PIR. I have been on this website for about a month and it is definately a godsend. All the moms have been so supportive and great.

My son Glenn is my oldest also, I have 2 younger kids still at home. It gets easier, especially after you get your first letter. I just got mine 2 days ago. He has been gone since July 22nd. It is an adjustment with him not in the house, but he has to move forward and grow, and he's in the right place for that. Hang in there, and keep talking on the site, it helps.

Kris...welcome...I am going to tell you what I did and it has been a lifesaver!!! First...call his recruiter on Monday...the recruiter can look in the computer and give you his address. As soon as you get that info go to the RTC website at http://www1.netc.navy.mil/nstc/rtcgl/family/upcominggrad.html and look up his Divison to ascertain his anticipated graduation date. Then go to the Groups tab and start a group for the whole Training Group and title it PIR and whatever the date is. You will have about 100 new friends in a nano second and they all will have kids who are graduating on the same day as yours...this way as each of them get a letter or a phone call you get to hear what is going on around your recruit...you are able to put these little puzzle pieces together to see the big picture. You are able to anticipate what and when your recruit will do things...Information is power...and all the new friends will get you thru this roller coaster ride!!! Go over to the groups tab and look at some of the groups...there are all kinds of people with all kinds of interests....Get your TEAM together...it will occupy your mind and help tremendously because you will still be connected to your recruit...you will be able to brag, listen or cry to all there and they will all understand!! Good Luck to you and your recruit Robin

Oh my gosh, you have no idea of how jealous i am of the parents who are farther along in this process than i am. While not looking forward to "the box", i am desperate for a letter and phone call and mostly just any information. My daughter left for BC on the 5th (arrived in GL on the 6th) and i have been scouring this board every day since...

It sounds like they are in bootcamp together. I am actually looking forward to the "box" because it is a litle piece of him that has been at bootcamp. I may not unpack it until I get his letter though. This website has been great. All of these ladies will answer any question you can come up with. Are you planning on going to PIR? I am not quite sure of the date yet, but should be first part of October. Which part of the US are you from? I am in northern California, by Sacramento.

My son Josh just left last week also. I know about the wreck part. He also is the oldest and it seems strange with him gone! Mine was in NJROTC so he was excited to leave as well.
Wonder if they are in the same division....

I just got Josh's mailing address. He is in DIV 363 USS Enterprise, bldg 7115. I got his "box" yesterday. I can't bring myself to unpack it until I actually hear his voice or get a letter from him. It seems like we are in the same boat. Hang in there, everyone on this site is great and offers so much support. We are counting down to PIR.

You should join a group that I created Division 363 ship 10, USS ENTERPRISE. My boyfriend left the same day too.
