They are brought to the airport on a bus. You may meet them there and wait with them, but the amount of time will vary depending upon what time they fly out.....
We went to the airport but we didn't get anytime with our son due to the bus being late and he almost missed his flight.... LOL..... but if it hadn't been for that we would have got about 30 minutes or so... Most people generally get about a hour or so at the airport.
You may get them all day graduation day if there not flying out that day.... depends on what day they are flying out.

Hi Mona, Congrats to your sailor. My son graduated last week. After graduation we had him all day until 8 pm and the next two days also picked him up around 8am, as far as them flying out.... i got a call at 3:45 this morning saying he was at midway he wasn't supposed to leave until the 26th guess they changed their mind. i am about an hour and a half from the airport so i didn't get to see him before he left..... waiting on my call to say he's ok in florida.....enjoy every minute with your sailor. congrats....

If your sailor does not stay at Great Lakes, more than likely you will get the weekend to spend with them. As others replied, you will have to get them back by a certain time. The graduation will be in the morning and then you should have the rest of the day. The Navy will transport them to airport. Graduation was incredible, my daughter graduated July 11. You won't realize that you can be even more proud of your child until you see them at graduation. Good luck, nine weeks does go by fast! I love my sailor! Kelly

Mona,
My son graduated almost a year ago (hard to believe) and we had most of the weekend with him. After PIR, he spent the day with us until 9:00, his RDC gave him a later time because their division made it to the Hall of Fame. Saturday we had him all day, until 8:00 PM, but he ended up going back sooner so that he could get his last minute things done before he left for Conn. the next day. We got up early Sunday morning and met him at the airport and got to spend another hour or so with him at the airport. How much time you get to spend with him depends on the mood of the RDC's and when your sailor is leaving. They are bused to the airport by the Navy, part of the reason we went there was so that we could give our son his IPod and his cell phone, which they can't have at GL. Definitely bring both of those with you when you go to PIR, my son spent time in the car on the phone calling friends and talking to them, and listening to some of his music on the IPod. Hope this helps, and congratulations to you and your sailor in advance!!

We got Friday after PIR Satdurday and Sunday. They do have to be back on base by a certain time every evening. If they are late there is big trouble. My son's ship was an hour late, ( they were all in different places.) they were suppose to have watch the next morning and were suppose to be back to base to muster an hour earlier than the rest of the graduates. there was talk of them losing the rest of liberty and even going to Captin's mass. However after a-lot of of discussion it was realized that the ship had been misinformed and everything worked out fine. I have learned in the navy, nothing is set in stone, don't get your hopes up too high because anything can change at the last minute.

Hello Mona,
After graduation it depends on rather that sailor has duty or not. Liberty will also be determine base on your sailor departure date.

Mona you will recieve a graduation packet the fourth week of recruit training. This packet contains information about liberty and a schedule of events.

Mona, it all depends if they leave right after PIR or not. If they are a Grad N Go on that day then they will have to leave drill hall go pick up their belongings and get on the bus to the airport. You can spend time with them there we had 3 hrs with our son. If he isn't a GNG on that day then you most likely get them for the weekend. When is the PIr?

depending upon where they have to go next after graduation, you can expect to have at least one full day with your son. My son graduated from RTC on July 3 and we had pretty much all afternoon & evening with him on the 3rd and all day & most of the eve July 4th, 5th & 6th as he was leaving for A school on the 7th. He could be picked up from base usually around 9ish and had to be back around 9pm depending upon if he had watch or not. Recently graduated recruits on liberty have to stay within 50 miles of base though. We were lucky that we live in Milwaukee so we could bring him back home to visit family while he had liberty.

Does anyone know if the families are informed in the PIR package whether or not their recruit is a grad & go or would only our recruit know themselves?

The grad packet informed us that our son's division was grad and go. It also stated that the division would leave RTC on Friday which was graduation day.
