My son Graduated from Boot camp however he was not able to leave for his school. They said he had to wait for Medical clearance but they won't give him any information. He says its because they have review his physical because he is going to be Aircrew. Has any one ever heard of this before. How can we find out how long he will have to be there.

Joan, don't panic. My son is also on medical hold at GL. He PIR'd a month ago and expected to be in Pensacola by now, at A school, but his medical waiver hasn't come through yet. In the meantime he's on the main base, has a comfortable bed, cell phone, computer, good food, plenty to do (they keep him really busy). He can go to the beach, to the USO, he's in phase 2 so can go into Chicago on weekends. He has no idea how long he'll be there and I'm very frustrated by the delay, but he's not. He says it'll happen when it happens and in the meantime he's learning as much as he can.

Incidentally, his 2 room mates are also on medical hold so there's a few of them in the same boat (so-to-speak).

My son was on medical hold for 5 months before being cleared to move on to his A school. At that time they put all the medical guys in Ship 17 and they shared the barracks with at times 160 some other guys. They were not permitted cell phones and no personal items. It was a trying time to say the least and he went up against a lot of hurdles. He was anemic and awaiting clearance to go on to Nuke School as soon as his waiver came thru things moved very quickly it just takes time to get a waiver if one is needed. If I can help in any way just let me know...

My son was in the same division as Chris' son. However, he was sent to Ship 17 to wait his waiver. He was there for a month before being cleared. He arrived in Pensacola last week, catching up with most of his division who is waiting to class up.

It will depend on where your son is sent---my son was not allowed cell phones or many privileges while waiting for his waiver. I have no clue why some get sent one place and others to another.

As long as how long he'll be there? Anyone's guess! Hang in there!
