Navy For Moms

I also posted this question on the Mom's with Daughters group but thought I would post here also. My daughter is leaving on 10/1 for boot camp and the recruiter gave hare a list of clothing items she needs to take but he said they may send it back. She is 27 and does not have that much additional money to spend on items to be returned in "the box". She is busty so underwear is expensive. Also he told her to take a swimming suit. She is a runner & a swimmer and is also concerned that if things are provided they will not fit properly. Help! Can she take her wallet, Or just her Drivers license, a little cash & her social security card. Cell phone? Small Bible? We really need direction from those who have gone to boot camp recently. Thanks everyone

I have a son so don't know about the girly stuff but my son just took his drivers lic., SS# card, $25, phone card, some stamps, and that was it. No wallet because he didn't really need it for anything.

There was a post a long time ago where a mother sent her daughter with all the underwear and such on the list and it did come back in the box. I just sent my son so I don't know first hand, but being that money is tight, I would not go to the extra expenses of buying extra items. I honestly didn't think we would get anything back because my son had the clothes on his back, cell phone (only to use to call from the airport before even heading to GL) and his wallet (drivers license, ss card, $30, address book, and phone card). His recruiter said they would most likely give him a locker being that he had so little, but I did get a box back. You can take a small bible. I hope this helps a little at least, I'm sure some moms with daughters will give you a little more insight.
Honestly not much at all. Maybe a very small bible, a small address book, a book of stamps, and a phone card. Anything else will be mailed back including the bathing suit. Everything they get is military issued right down to their underwear! You can take her ID & other personal items when you go to PIR only if she is a grad & go or moving off the RTC side. As far as money, just give her enough to buy something to eat in the airport as they really have no where to spend it. They will issue them a card, that is deducted from their 1st pay, to buy personal items at the NEX when they arrive at RTC. Hope this helps :D
Bonnie - check out this site. Under the Future Recruits section towards the top you can find "What to Bring" and "What Not to Bring" for both guys and gals. Good Luck!
