Reduced airfare for our military

I think this is a great idea. If there was a law that said military members and their families should have a reduced airfare it would make it easier for them to fly home. I have however, got a reasonable discount when I fly simply by calling the various airlines directly and asking if they had a military rate. All you need is a military ID when you pick up your ticket at the counter. It is all about timing and being thorough. American Airlines, Delta, United, US Airways are some of the ones I use most. Also It pays to book ahead, at least 2 months if possible. I hope this helps anyone flying soon. I would be glad to help look for flights if you need it. I have many resources, and found many tricks of the trade.

I did find out by accident (because I got extremely frustrated online and called) that Alaska airlines doesn't do 'discounts', but they do have a "Military fare" It saved us $75 (basically 30%) sending Matthew down to SD from Portland. They were super nice too and even gave me & my 2 yr old and Matthew's friend a 'stand by ticket to nowhere' that allowed us to go through security with him so we could have lunch with him and wait at the gate til boarding time.
