Hi Jean-

i'm a sub mom also, but not from Texas. There is a group on here for sub moms you should check out, maybe there are some from Texas. Congratulations on being a new Sub mom!

I will be a Sub Mom from San Antonio, Texas. My son Ryan PIR is 10/03 then he will be going to Groton for subschool. WHere is your son?

Congradulations on your son's PIR

My son is in Groton now and he said the first two weeks were boring but last week was his first week of real school and he like that.

The weather is nice but getting cooler.

The base is out in no where's land so not much to do on the weekends. They have alot more freedom than at BC like getting up on their own , going to a mail room on their own, and to the gallery which is where the Nex is

almost everyone has a laptop.

Once school starts they have mantory study time but if you make good grades on your tests you do not have to do the study time but I told my son study anyway.

Some Moms have suggested that we go visit him like on the weekends but I said I have two kids still in High School and we are doing High school things like football games homecomming dances etc. Also, some of the other Sub Moms said that their sons enjoy Groton but once they got on a ship the work really begin. and not much freedom to do things on their own.
Tell him to do well on his tests in Groton so he can pick where to go next.



Once they get set up in Groton they will call more and write more and e-mail more.

We can send care packages. I am sending one today. It about almost a week to get there.

The first week he did not go to Chapel but this week he said he would go.

So that is some of the things I have learned about being a sub mom

I hope you can go to the PIR at Great Lakes.
It was wonderful.

Hi I am not a submom, I am a seabee mom, my son is somewhere in the middle east, can't say where! But anyway, we live in South County, R.I., which about 1 hr from Groton, if I can do anything for your sailors let me know. Maybe a visit to R.I. and a home cooked meal??

Better be careful what you offer! LOL You may have the whole base at your house for the home cooked meals! seriously, that is very generous of you to offer your home and your heart to our sailors (soon to be sub mom of a sailor). Myson will also be going to Groton after graduation. He has weekend liberty thankfully. We will be moving closer, about 14 hour drive instead of 32 as we would have now. Any suggestions on laptops anybody? Son has given me his credit info, but the goof ball forgot to give me his billing addy.. wht a goof :)

We got lee a good deal for a laptop at BestBuy they always awesome deals. I send lee's yesterday and spent 125.00 on the shipping alone I would check around on the Groton Site if they have Cicruit City, Best Buy or Staples out there and he can get himself. Atleast you know it's getting there in one peace, lol.

Thank you so much for the info on subschool. I am leaving Oct. 2nd for Great Lakes. I wouldn't miss PIR for anything! Where does your son want to go next or what are his choices?
