Navy For Moms

Should we plan a "get together" for families of those in division 313/ship 14?

From what I heard, the guys in 313 are a tight group that stick together. Let's brainstorm about what, when and where because we all know why.

I am healing a little more everyday. Staples are out and I have a Frankenstein scar now LOL. I am going to get some of that cream and see if I can minimize it some. I go back to DR next Tuesday and hopefully he will release me totally. Sleeping is getting better.
James is still calling 3-4 times a week but I can see that slowing down now. He finally starts his AO classes today. He wants to finish in top 10 of his class so he can be in line to choose his duty station. The top 10 in order get to choose their duty from what is open. So that is a pretty big goal and will take LOTS of time studying.
He is still doing PT daily and says his AO Chief is a great motivator and a mini muscle man. They run 5 miles a day and have learned some new cadence....he wouldnt repeat them to me. Those sailors can have mouths that need a bar of soap.......LOL He is really pumped to get into his studies so I think my phone calls will slow down now. So I told him I was going to start writing again.
I still have the wind damage from Ike to deal with here, we have the roofer coming Thursday, and the tree people coming Monday next week. The ceilings were finished last week. I am just a little stir crazy and wanting to get back on the road with my hubby. By the end of the week I should have a graduation date on James, and then he will be home for 14days! So its nice to know I will see him in 3-6 weeks!

Hello everyone,
We took Kaity and a few friends to Magic Kingdom on Saturday for her sweet 16 birthday, then on to the Rainforest Cafe for dinner which ended up being at 11pm. What a long day!! We finally got home at 3am. She had a great time though!

Curtis says it is getting cold up there in GL. I told him on Oct. 13 it is supposed to be a high of 75 and the 14th is a high of 56. He said he is going to have to buy himself the "big coat" soon. Wonder how much that costs?? His last test was a tough one, but he did pass. I will be expecting a call tonight because he had a test today. He said he "sighned up for the Fleet Marine Force" when school is over, but said that he really needs to start getting back in shape for that. He said that all the food that I sent him was great and he was excited to have it. He said if he had a camera he could have taken some really pretty pictures. He and some other guys went to the aquarium in Chicago and a museum and then had lunch at a place where Al Capone used to chill. I guess he was impressed by that! His birthday is coming up next week maybe I will send him that camera....hhmmm.

Well I need to go pick Kaity up from school...take care everyone!!

Pam, please tell your sweet daughter that we wish her a HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I am so happy to hear that Curtis is doing well.

I talked to Kenny today..........YIPPEE..................for a huge two minutes. He had to go to work but I know he is good, still happy and the usual "love you mom". Guess that has to be good enough for now. We were going to Chico until last night Eddie called and said "mom, I know it is family weekend at Chico but I really want to come home" so he is coming in on a train Fri. We will take him home on Sunday and he wants us to hang out with him, usually doesnt want us to leave but he might have a different feeling after an entire weekend at home.

Love to all.

HOT OFF THE PRESS...................I just got a call from GERBER BABY and he was one happy baby too. He got his orders, finally. He said "Mom, I should be in GREAT LAKES in about two weeks".

He's happy but very tired after working 9p-6a and then having a meeting. He wants Eric, Matt and Curtis to know that he will be back soon so, please, spread the word moms. Kenny will make calls this weekend as he is busy with work until this weekend.

Take care ladies.

That is great news! I bet he will be happy to be back with his friends for awhile. What did he finally choose as his rate? Or did you tell us and I just missed it?

Hopefully......Corpsman! That's what Kenny had originally signed up for but changed it just weeks before leaving for bootcamp.

Today, Kenny said "you know mom, the Navy could put me just about anywhere and I would give it 110% and enjoy it". So I asked him "would you be so positive and happy if you were a janitor on a submarine". he cracked up but I was darn serious. I dont know how anyone can be that happy just doing anything but he is 110% committed to the Navy.
Apparently, there are four of them who put in for a transfer from MAA to Corpsman. Not all had to wait as long as Kenny but all four received orders today returning to GL but there wasn't any designation to an A School which means it is very possible, GL could bring more waiting until a class positions opens but Kenny is making the best of it.

He will miss a lot of the folks he met in San Antonio but is very much looking forward to seeing the guys in GL. I have no doubt that Kenny will try to look up his RDC's from bootcamp too.

Hi all. Renee, how great that Justin will be home for his 21st birthday!!!!!! Have a great time while he's home.
Monica--I will tell MAtt Gerber Baby will be back soon. Yipee!

We have one fan and one dehumidifier left. Seems one wall isn't dry yet. We were going to get new carpet & file with the insurance, but since the bottom has dropped out of the economy, it probably won't happen now. The carpet man promised he could take care of the mold. We'll see.
Good News---we now have an ice maker that works!!!!
Mary Jane & I met up at the wedding of very good friends of Matt & Mike. It was beautiful, wasn't it MJ? Only bad part was that it was an hour late starting.

Jacqueline--glad your shoulder is doing better.

Pam, how is Curtis doing? Matt was really pumped on Tues when he called. He made the3rd highest grade on the test that day. ( 7 failed.) and he had done watch from 2A-4A the night before. That was a real motivator to study even harder for the test this Friday.
He had duty this weekend, so he can't leave the base. Then the next weekend Ellen will be there. She is such a sweetie!

Matt's A school graduation is Dec. 18th & then he will be home.

I've had some kind of BAD stomach virus, with aches pains, & chills like the flu. It is going around school. About 7 or 8 teachers have had it so far. It's been rough. Today was the first solid food since Sat. I'm never sick during the summer, but as soon as school starts, here I go. I wish I could retire, but it will be at least 4 more years.

Matt calls on a regular basis. I haven't had the problems you all have been having.

Monica, Matt met his birth mom about a month before he left for the Navy. We met for lunch.. First time I had met her too. We all ordered food, & she had 2 margaritas. She is a friend of friends of ours. They are the ones that helped to arrange the adoption. The one condition was that he didn't look her up until he was 21. Anyway, on the way home Matt said that he was sure glad I was his mom because he didn't think he would have done so well with her as his mom. She was very cold & into herself.( And described that way by our friends.)
He told her he would like to stay in touch, she agreed, but I don't think she really meant it. He invited her to his going away party & she didn't even respond--one way or the other.

Take care,everyone.

Holly,

I had no idea Matt was adopted but what a blessing you and your husband are to him and an even bigger blessing that he knows it. You are an angel without wings! Eddie's mom lives in Stockton (less than 45 minutes away) and she is always into herslef with perfect manicures, hair and dresses like she is 20 yrs old but she has the body for it so she can sort of pull that off. But the same thing, she is not into and sad though since he is her baby......well he was but now he is ours. I make him laugh when I tell him that I missed out on the dirty diapers (we got him at 15 years old).

I learned now to just be into him as a parent and not be so concerned with the other parts as those are what they are and no one, including me be hopeful, that I will change things, I wasnt interested in his mom or dad as much as I was what it would mean to Eddie. At least now he has a relationship with his siblings, who are all so very different but loving and kind human beings.

Being the nice person that I am................I even called Kenny's dad (x-husband for me) and wished him a Happy Birthday. He seemed surprised that I called but dont know why I have yet to miss a birthday in fact, the other calls he gets from me is reminding him its his sister, brother or even his mother's birthday who is exact eight days after his b-day - Oct 16. What a joke but that is who I am.

Monica, We brought Matt home from the hospital at 3 days old. For you to adopt a 15 year old is a real act of love. Eddie is so fortunate to have you. I'm sure he knows that.
We received the DVD of PIR a few days ago & I watched it tonight. Wished I hadn't.I sure do miss that kid.

I spoke with Matt earlier. He said that corpsmen don't get sent to a ship for at least 2 years because they need medical experience before being shipped out. He will either go to a land job or to Camp Pendelton to do meddical field training with the Marines. We should know in about a month.

He said that if the recruit training officers were still reading he had a message for them. He said that he now knows what they meant by " dirt bags".And, that the guys from 313 are doing the right thing, & remembering what they were taught. And, they were sticking together. Don't know if they are still keeping up since they have graduated, but if they are....they did a great job with our guys.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Matt has been friends with Jacob for a long time. He even stayed with us for awhile after his parents moved to Texas. He lived with his uncle, but spend many nights & meals with us. I remember when Matt met Sam. She use to hang out at our house with all the guys. That was way before she & Jacob got together.I loved having them here to eat. Matt is so picky, that it was great having kids that would eat real food. ---Micheal included.
Of course Tom didn't want to go , & I was glad to see you & some of the other friends that I could talk to & sit with. I was a little uncomfortable by myself.
You are right, the lobby of a hotel isn't the best place for a wedding. I thought the reception was lovely.
Take care. Holly
