My son haseen stationed in Willow GrovePenn. Does anyone know anything about this base?
Since they are closing it down we have been told there is really no mess hall, at least not like boot camp. Any info will be helpful. We are thinking of going up there for the holidays.
Thanks so much

Hi Susan, I live about 30 min from Willow Grove. How long has your son been stationed there? I'm not sure what's still left of the base as I haven't been there in a couple of years. I believe they still have a NEX & a Commisary where he could get mircowave meals/snacks. There is a bus that goes right past the base so he could get to the mall or other stores. Matter of fact I think there is a supermarket & other small stores behind the base. Here is a link to the base however it really doesn't give much info. https://www.cnic.navy.mil/WillowGrove/index.htm As far as a mess hall, there are many bases with no Chow/Mess Hall. My daughter lives on a base in Hawaii and she has to buy her own food to cook in a microwave. They are usually given a food allowance when meals are not provided.

Thanks for writting back and for the web site. Jonathon has been in Willow Grove about a month. I just can't believe the bases don't have mess halls. There is so much I have to learn. You have been a great help.
Thanks again. By the way, your kids are beautiful.

I actually was the Adjutant for the Young Marine Program on that base. They have also said this base was going to be completely closed for over 6 years now. They did move some units around but just to different buildings & hangers. No mess hall but they do have subway and another place. He can walk right out the side gates (airforce side, i believe) and their is 2 pizza places (one on the side of the movie theatre and one on the side of the base) Outside the main gate, across 611 is a big WAWA (convenient store), next to that is a Diner, down the street to the right is a Hogie place, a sports bar and so on.... I do believe the base housing allows them to have little frig's and micrwaves in their accomadtations, correct or not anymore? You can E-mail me at navymombb@yahoo.com for all the information. Where are you guys from and what position does your son hold? Will you be there for Thanksgiving? If not what is he doing for the holiday???

Paula (I am less than 20 min away, if he needs anything)
