Hi Gina-
My son is currently in sub school and from what I can tell, it's 49 days. I'm not sure if Nukes undergo the same program. My son is in BESS - basic enlisted submarine school. He goes on to his missile technician A and C schools after completing it. There is a submarine group and a Groton group for more discussion if you want to join them. Do a search and check out their expertise.

Are you talking BESS??
My son is an MT and his first stop after being on hold forever was Groton, CT for BESS
It was about for about 4 months, including Indoc and some waiting time.
He is now in C school in Kings Bay, GA

Good luck.

Gina--I am curious too. When you get more information, I will be happy to learn the details. My sailor is currently at Goose Creek, too.

Basic Enlisted Sub School in Groton is 49 days. My son just graduated from BESS last Thursday. He will be a Machinist Mate on subs and is now in his Basic Mechanics School and then will do his Auxiliary Tech School there in Groton as well. Kathie

Enlisted sailors in the Nuke pipeline do NOT attend BESS in Groton. Enlisted Nukes go straight from Prototype to their boat.. It is my understanding the there is an officer sub school for all sub officiers including those coming from Power School and Prototype. Good luck to son.

Thanks for all the input. I also sent asked our "recruiting officer" on N4M... she also said that nukes go from their protype to their subs. without sub school in groton

even if they have welding classes to finish for emergencu sub repairs?

Nuke sailors may attend some classes in Groton i.e. welding, DC fire fighting, fire (weapons) control etc. But, they do not attend Basic Enlisted Submarine School or BESS.
