About me:
I'm been married for 37 years and have 5 children and 4 grandchildren. Our youngest son, Patrick, left for the Navy yesterday from Birmingham, Alabama and is now in Boot Camp. He left April 7th, 2008....Even though we have 5 children, each one of them means more to us than life itself. I am VERY thankful to have all our children in town (B'ham) , close by but when ONE is gone, it's as if a wagon wheel is missing on the wagon! We all are missing our Patrick but know that God has great plans for him and I trust God to take care of him while he is away from us! I was the proudest of my child when:
I've ALWAYS been proud of Patrick, whatever he has done. He is a great son and guy! My proudest moment with Patrick was June 6 , 2008 when he graduated from Boot Camp and became a SAILOR! He is now in Pensacola, Fla in "A" school! Hurrah, BOOT CAMP is OVER!

When my son/daughter first spoke about joining the service I:
Was concerned or afraid, Was confused, Was proud
As a new Navy mom, the most important thing I learned was:
I'm learning! Patience, patience, Patience! It's so hard to have to WAIT to hear from your son's first call; first letter; 2nd call; orders; dates of graduation!!! I'm STILL trying to be patient and trying to tell Patrick to do likewise!

Spending the 4th of July with Patrick! Hurrah!

I'm so excited b/c this July 4th we're spending with Patrick! We're leaving the 'Ham early on July 4th and will be in Pensacola around 4 hours later ! My daughter Natalie, her husband Brad and their wee ones, Kemp and Daisy are going as well as my other daughter, Katie and myself. I'm taking a cooler with some of Patrick's favorite foods and we'll have our own July 4th picnic! We all bought cute July 4th shirts and we're ready to roll! Brad will be driving Patrick's truck down and as s… Continue

PatPat is bored today. He wishes Pat were here to fish with him!

PatPat and GranJan (aka Me/Jan) are bored today. I have lots of projects to do but PatPat kept bugging me to hang with him awhile. So, I did. He can be a naughty bear but most times really fun to hang with. Like on a hot, boring Saturday. Just don't tell the other kids. If they know… Continue

Uh Oh! Pat got sunburned!

I just talked to Patrick and he sounded pretty frustrated! He is having a hard time with the push ups/sit ups. His run time is great, but he is having a time with those push ups! He did get to go to the beach and do a little fishing with some guys, which he loved but got a little sun… Continue

Patrick sounds great!

Well, ever since Pat's phone was delivered to him he has been so much happier! He must be on the phone every minute that he's not busy doing NAVY STUFF! HAHA! All Patrick's siblings have talked to him and I have talked to him a lot, too! He sounded great this morning and I feel so mu… Continue

My son the SAILOR!

WEll, it's official! Patrick is a United States Sailor in the Navy! We went to his graduation last FRYday (our last name is FRY haha) at Great Lakes and it was just incredible! June 6, 2008---a day to remember forever!!! We had a wonderful time and after graduation we went to Chicago where Patrick chilled out for awhile in our hotel (the Westin in Chicago) and asked him the BIG QUESTION! "WHAT DO YOU WANT TO EAT?!" He wanted , this sounds gross but, "something bloody"! HAHA! A RARE STEAK and FRE… Continue

Hey Jan, I know you are excited to see Patrick! We will be spending time with Stephen as well as 2 of his sailor friends he is bringing home. He will be here sometime around midnight tonight. He leaves for Jacksonville on the 5th to go back to base. Everyone is doing well- our 2 Sea Cadets will be getting their first year ribbon at a special ceremony July 12th and then having a picnic afterword. Our youngest Sea Cadet, Micah who is 13, just got back from his 1 wk bootcamp in Florida and his older brother, Josh who is 15, goes to bootcamp in Florida on July 27th for 2 weeks. We have to pick him up on Aug 9th. Alot going on at our house lately! Good to hear from you and tell Patrick we send blessings!

On a sad note...did you see the recruit that was struck and killed by the Metra? He was from B'ham. Sad Sad Sad. He looked so young and sweet. His name was Matthew Hicks.

Hi Jan, Yup, Jeff is the baby of the family. Two girls and then 3 boys. He had PIR 5/2 and is in Charleston, SC. He will be home Oct. 20 and has already talked to his recruiter to volunteer at their office. That means he gets an additional 5 days leave. By the way, I have a cousin who lives in Hoover. Love that big mall!!! Once again, have a GREAT 4th of July!! Pat

I know. I keep checking every day in hopes that it goes down. First he told us he would be going to Pensecola Aug. 1st, then it was the middle to end of Aug. now it could be before Aug. 1st. Who knows. He doesn't even know! Pensecola is 8 hours from here so I would probably fly there too! I haven't checked any fares there. i guess I should but I need to know what airlines fly into there first! haha! I hope you truly have a wonderful time!!! I sure can't wait to see Dustin! We will have to plan a weekend for the 4 of us when Dustin gets there!

I hope you have a wonderful time with Patrick! Please say "HI" for me and pass a hug along! I wish I could see Dustin but right now the airfare from Tampa to Chicago is $122 one way. That's more than I paid to go for graduation! I'm bummed. I know he wants to see us. He asked my Mom if she could come up to see him. I told him i was trying but the airfare was just too much right now. I keep looking every day!!!
