Five Years Ago Today

I have told this story so many times. When my 2nd sailor son, Michael, went on deployment to the Mideast I would wait to hear from him and read everything that I possibly could. I had set a google alert and was so surprised to see his picture in theday.com. His sub, the USS Providence is going through the Suez Canal. I recognized him because I knew it was his sub and because he is wearing his watch on his right hand. I have looked through file after file on my computer trying to fi… Continue

The Sailors that make me so proud

I have 2 boys in the Navy. Just reading some of the stories and seeing the photos takes me back to when they joined. I remember how incredibly precious the letters were that I received while the boys were in basic. Many from Kelly... 2 from Michael. E-mails on deployment were so very seldom and I lived for them. I have to admit that I am rather envious of other mothers whose children wrote or called more regularly. Kelly enlisted in July of 1999. I remember him saying he didn't believe in war a… Continue

Hi Kathy, yes we have the 2 star flags as well. My husband and I both ride a Harley so we had no trouble finding our pins. If you go to google and type in blue star flags some good sites come up too. Thanks for the comment on my page. I am usually not on here this much, but because of the holiday weekend had more time to do this and I love it. But it is back to the grind of 10 hour days tomorrow.

Hi Kathy, I just read your blogs about you having 2 sons in the Navy. I have one son who graduated boot camp on April 11,08 and is now in Aschool in Great Lakes and I miss him so and I don't hear from him nearly as much as I'd like to but I realize from reading your comments that I still have a long way to go. I too was raised in Fairhaven. Attended all the schools there and now live in New Bedford.

Kathy,
I love that you have posted your blue star banner! I just got mine from the local American Legion. They gave it to me and I paid for a membership for him. I am trying to get a group started for active military at our local post. I don't know what we will call ourselves but I would like to know the local people that have sons/daughters on active duty here.

Kathy, yea, Klondike was fun this year for our guys. They took first place. So proud of themselves. My son mounted a helmet cam on the sled so we have great action pics!! Tim and Josh, who led the sled -- Tim wore a Navy shirt and Josh wore an Army shirt!

Hi Kathy. Yes scouting is a big part of our lives in this house. Patrick is an Eagle Scout and so is my husband (also scoutmaster). My 14 year old is Life scout and will be working at T.L. Storer camp for the summer as CIT. We are with Troop 3 Somerville. Were both your boys involved in scouting? I really feel like scouting prepared Patrick for his Navy career. There are a lot of Eagle scouts at Annapolis.

Hi Kathy, I really enjoyed reading your blog. Great pictures too. The boys really do look alike. I just joined this site and I'm finding my way around slowly.
