Profile Information

About me:
I work for Tennessee Children's Home in Development. My husband Dave and I have one daughter, Patricia (17) who we just acquired about a year ago through fostercare and we have two sons, Adam (18) who is enlisted in the Navy, Nov 2007 DEP and Brad (32) who has given me three beautiful grandchildren, Katherine (7), Izzy (Isabella) (4) and Bam Bam (Brad Allen ) (1 year).
My child's FIRST name only (No Last Names Please!):
Adam
My son/daughter is:
Enlisted
I was the proudest of my child when:
Swore into the Navy. He is going into Advanced Electronic and Computer.
When my son/daughter first spoke about joining the service I:
Was proud
As a new Navy mom, the most important thing I learned was:
Adam left for Great Lakes, IL July 11, 2008. His PIR was Sept 5, 2008. He's school will be for Advanced Electronics and Computer

Lean on N4M when your baby leaves for Boot Camp, you will need the support.
My son/daughter is currently in the service or retired, and now I believe:
Our relationship has grown stronger, This was a maturing experience, The Navy has a lot to offer, This was the best decision he/she could have made

The Art of Letting Go

You were there when they were conceived. God blessed you with the perfect child born. You fed them when they hungered You soothe them when they cried. You rocked them endless nights. You disciplined them when they lied. In the blink of an eye. Teenage years arrive. The battles of the wills begin. The independence you taught Becomes smart-mouthed, slammed bedroom doors and arrogance. Sometimes you wish them gone. They know it all by that age Patience runs very thin. Little by little They wean… Continue

HS Graduation is over

Well, Adam graduated for High School this last weekend. All the months of planning, worrying, and fussing is over. Somehow I feel the "let-down", I feel blue. Maybe because now I need to focus and prepare Adam to leave for Great Lake July 10. I need to prepare myself for his departure. Some days are better than others. My husband tries to comfort me by saying stuff like, "It's time for him to grow up", "He's becoming a man", and/or "Independant, this is how we raised him" but somehow this isn't… Continue

:) How is he liking? Kyle is still up there as well, but he grad. on Oct. 28th :) He is doing really well, and making nothing but high 90s on his tests that he has. He has night classes, only 29 of the CS Sailors do. SO he has Liberty during the day til about 4oclock or so and they get out around 11-12am. But he is doing okay. only 19 days left. then he will be on hold for his orders til at the MAXIMUM of one month. I hope he could come home for Thanksgiving. :)

Thank you very much Rebecca! I will let you know how he is doing once he gets to Cali! Aaron and his crew will only be there for about three months at first. Then they are going to ship his crew to Maine to work on the USS MEYER.
The Destroyer is being built there and they will start training on the actual ship and cleaning it im sure. I think it should be ready next fall so he will be there until they go underway and bring the Destroyer around to California at the end of next year. Aaron thought he was going to get to lay around in sunny Cali until the ship was ready. NOT! Ha..... He is happy though. He is thrilled with his orders and enjoys his OS Job. I am very thankful at this moment. It has been a long 7 months but as I told you, it gets better for them all when they finally get their assignment. I hope Adam is doing well and Im so glad you get to talk to him now. Its so nice to hear their voice again, isnt it? Take care,Pam

I mailed Steven his cell last week, but as of Saturday he still did not have it. He is in Pensacola awaiting A School. He has been doing what they call core classes and I think just killing time until his actual classes start. His phone number is 817-773-1038. We've had 2 phone calls from him, but really don't know much yet. We had a great time at graduation and treasure those moments. Ike hit some of our family furthur north than we are, but I believe most of them have electricity now and are doing okay. Still waiting to hear from some in Beaumont. What was Adam training for? Steven is CTR - Cryptologic technician. It is good to hear from you.

Hi Rebecca!
I read your post on Boot Camp Moms. My son was in holding for a couple of weeks after boot camp also. It's just that the timing of the A school progam and the timing of BC don't always sync. Fortunately for my son, there was another guy headed to his A school with him. Your son will get more freedom while he waits ... and will probably get liberty on the weekends. But they still have limited resources for making contact (no cell phone etc.). Dylan hated it because he was ready to move on to the next phase. Be patient ... as will likely happen in the military, it's just a case of hurry up and wait.

Hey Becky,

I haven't posted in quite a while. I'm wondering what is going on with Adam now that boot camp is over and how you are doing. If you get a chance, catch me up. Karen
