About me:
I am a very proud Mom. Anthony is my youngest child. He has talked of joining the navy for a few years now. Anthony's Dad and I have been married for 25 years and he is our youngest child. I am at the same time proud and terrified.

I was the proudest of my child when:
He made a decision to better his life and serve his country.
When my son/daughter first spoke about joining the service I:
Was concerned or afraid, Needed to learn more about it, Was proud, Was relieved, Encouraged him/her, Said “No way!”
As a new Navy mom, the most important thing I learned was:
I have no control over anything in his life anymore. He's a man, he's made a wise decision and is now committed to the service.
My son/daughter is currently in the service or retired, and now I believe:
Our relationship has grown stronger, This was a maturing experience, The Navy has a lot to offer, This was the best decision he/she could have made

PIR Weekend

The day FINALLY came!!! What a wonderful ceremony--so intereting to watch!! It was difficult finding Anthony is the sea of white--as soon as we found him-they all turned around-and then we lost him!!!!! We staye at the Residence Inn in Wakegan. Very happy with this hotel, nice suites, very homey. We were only 5 miles from the base, too us no time to get there and back. Today my son became a United States Sailor!!

Got the phone call about 1:30 today from Anthony--"Mom. I'm a Sailor!" He did it he passed Battle Stations, it's over. He said he actually had fun, walking in the ship was awesome. He thought the experience was neat and he enjoyed it, he even had a few laughs along the way! He said they got the call last night on the 4th about 8PM and at 10AM this morning, it was history! Happy Birthday Anthony!!!

YAAA!! It's your birthday-- exactly --it's 3 pm!!! you have been waiting for this one for a few years-- and now you're in boot camp!!! Oh well, we'll celebrate at PIR--no alcohol though!!!! Still have to wait LOL!!!!! Well, happy birthday can't wait to see ya!!!!!!! love you

First Phone Call

WOW!!!! What a great da, go my PIR packet and a phone call all in one day!!!!!! My phone rang on Saturday, 8/10 about 2 o'clock I think. I saw that funky area code and answered so quick!!!! "Hi, Mom!!!!" like music to my ears!!!!! That's my babies voice!!!! I have not been so disconnected from him before, I didn't realize how truly difficult this would be. He sounds so good! I can breathe again!!!

Yippeee!! We got our first letter from Anthony today--August 7--seemed like we were waiting an eternity!!! Anthony sounds so happy and content--he loves boot camp! He says he is with a good group of guys-and the funniest part is he said "I am enjoying ironing and folding everything--can't wait to show you how good I fold pants ans shirts now and how neat I make my bed!!< it looks so good" Too funny---since it took me almost the last 3 weeks to clean up his bedroom!!!! Raven is freezing all the time but says the snow is pretty. I too am counting the days until I can see my baby! I'm just happy she is in classes this morning and not cleaning the ship. She told me this morning her time as Cinderella has passed.

That's just it. Raven says they haven't give out any info on the break other than the dates. I think she just told me that to be on the safe side. I guess she can always head to the airport and try to go stand by on an earlier flight.

Nan, are you sure about the time they are calling liberty for Christmas brake? Raven told me after the work day at 4 in the afternoon. I don't have her on a flight out until 6:20 pm she won't get home until just before mid night. I would love to get her some sooner if Anthony is sure about the time.

That's good to hear he is doing well. It always feels good when you have the hardest part of school behind you.
I'm sure he will have a good time in the City. Raven was in there a couple of weeks ago and had a great time. She was sending me picture mail from all over the city. Her way of sharing it with me I guess.
Yes Miss Thing is freezing her bum off. Poor baby keeps saying it's so cold her mom. From what I know of that area this is just the beginning. She is in for one long cold winter.

Hi Nan, I just talked to Adam. He said Anthony seems to be doing ok. He saw him Sunday night and again yesterday when he was helping Adam strip the floor in his room. (Adam and his room mates were moving the furniture in their room and a pen got under the desk and leaked ink on the floor so they have to fix it???) I just wanted Adam to be aware. He said he will be seeing Anthony again this week and this weekend. Just wanted to let you know.

I'm so sorry for the boys. I will say a prayer for them both. Raven is doing well she was finally take off hold and started her SCC classes she needs to complete these before she can start her A school. She is freezing every time I speak to her she says she is just miserable from the cold. She's a west cost girl and anything below 60 is intolerable. I keep telling her she is going to be in GL threw the winter and has to find away to deal with it.
