Hi Ledonna, I have looked everywhere for information on DC. Im glad to have found someone who has been through it! My husband went in as DC and I was wondering what his A-school consisted of, how many weeks total was he gone after boot camp finished? My husbands PIR is 10/24/08. Our first born is due Dec. 21st, So i am hoping he will be done by then.. I appreciate any information! Chrystal

My son is home on leave for 14 wonderful days. He hasn't heard whether he'll wait for the ship or board it while still out at sea. I'll keep you posted. We are looking forward at a chance to board the ship ourselves and take the Tiger Cruise from Hawaii to Everett. If you get a chance, check out the Silo while you are at Great Lakes. Terrific Chicago pizza! Enjoy your son's PIR and congratulations to him for a job well done.

My son has just finished A school at Meridian, MS and has orders for USS Abe Lincoln. He arrives there 9/3. He's a Yeoman. What is Sam's job?

Hi Ledonna,

Thanks for all of the info on A School and DC rate. It was really, really helpful. Nate will be 22 on Friday 8/1. He said he would like to be stationed overseas somewhere as he really wants to travel. I'm wish he would end up in San Deigo. Truthfully, neither of even know the options. Is it true that this depends on how well you do in A School? The not knowing is so hard for me. When are they starting A School? When will he know where he is going? When will he be home before leaving for his duty? Did he move already? Ugh. Chill, mom...right?

Thanks again for all of the great info.

OK, now I am crying and people are going to wonder what is wrong with me. That is such a wonderful story and believe me I am going to be a mess, but your right about them being MEN now. I think that is one of the things that is not getting through my head, is that he is grown and on his own now. What the heck am I going to do when my youngest is gone? Oh, I know, Travel!! Yee Haa! I am probably going to pass on the make-up, because by the time this is done I won't have any on anyway and I don't want to look streaked. :)

I hear what your saying about the tissue. When Michael was a freshman in high school he was with the Junior AF ROTC, and they were in the Veterans Day Parade, I was so proud and overwhelmed with emotion, I cried like a baby. My girls thought I had gone off the deep end. :) I can only imagine the emotions that are going on at PIR. When you know how hard your kids have worked, not being able to communicate with them, trying to understand that they are grown up, holy moly, it is just too much. I am a baby when it comes to my kids anyways. My girls are in cheer and when I was there for tryouts with them and found out that they both made it, yep, I cried. I am so proud of them! My youngest is a freshman this year and that freaks me out. I am not ready to be an...empty nester! Of course in four years I could change my mind. :)
