About me:
I am married and the proud mother of two children.
My youngest, Jake, is 20 and enlisted in the Navy - left for boot camp on April 13. Jake graduated 6/6/08 and is now a USN Sailor! He has just completed A-School in GL and in currently in San Diego for C-School. He is scheduled to be in Little Creek, VA by the end of October.
I also have a 22 yr old daughter, Jennifer who has given us 3 beautiful granddaughters!
My child's FIRST name only (No Last Names Please!):
Jake
My son/daughter is:
Enlisted
I was the proudest of my child when:
I saw him march into PIR with the rest of his division.
When my son/daughter first spoke about joining the service I:
Was concerned or afraid, Was proud, Encouraged him/her
As a new Navy mom, the most important thing I learned was:
how quickly he would become a man during boot camp.
My son/daughter is currently in the service or retired, and now I believe:
This was the best decision he/she could have made

Jake's First Leave

We said goodbye Sunday to Jake after his first "leave" since entering boot camp. We were fortunate to be able to pick up Jake last week from GL and he was able to spend 6 days at home before leaving for C-School in San Diego. It was awesome to spend time with Jake and so wonderful to experience how he's matured during his first six months of being in the Navy. From our conversation since he arrived in San Diego, he is expecting to enjoy his time in California and anxiously looking forward to his… Continue

A School visits

We returned Sunday (late) from another visit with Jake. Last weekend, Jake had to jump thru hoops to get liberty, but it was finally granted. Initially, he was afraid that due to the liberty restrictions he wouldn't be able to spend the weekend with us but it all worked out! This visit, we took in a Cubs game, went to Navy Pier and to Shedd Aquarium. We are so fortunate that he's as close as he and we've been able to visit fairly regularly. We decided pretty early on after finding out that A sch… Continue

Cedar Rapids Flooding

6/15/08 Thank you to everyone that has asked about our welfare. We live in Marion, IA - a suburb of Cedar Rapids. Our family has not experienced a direct loss due to the flooding but know so many that have. Please keep our city in your thoughts and prayers. Our city's downtown was completely submerged with the flooding of the Cedar River this past week. We also had many other areas of the city suffer severe record setting flooding. My place of business, GreatAmerica Leasing was situated direct… Continue

PIR

I'm so darned excited right now I can't stand it! We're leaving in the morning for Great Lakes ... and it can't come soon enough! This is seriously the countdown time. We've got about 36 hrs right now until I get to hug my baby boy. Man...I never had any idea how much I'd truly miss him. This is obviously the longest time I've spent away from him since he was born. And I'm sorry, but two phone calls have helped, but it would have been nice for more! :) I'm so filled with pride that Jake made the… Continue

I am really going to miss Summerfield cause it is a great development!! I love the houses in the area and it is quite for a family area...

I would love to get together. We have a wedding on the 16th and since your busy on the 9th. It sounds like it would have to be a Friday night or Sunday afternoon. Weekday nights are too hard for me since I work nights. Wouldn't it be awesome if Kyle and Jake were back at the same time? Dillon was born May 18th. He is getting to be a lot of fun. He interacts with you much more. Smiles and coos. How is Jake's A school going. Let me know about your weekend.

Cherie,
Good to hear from you. I hope everything goes O.K. with your weekend plans to see Jake. I am missing Kyle pretty bad. It was different when he was in GL and I knew he was just 5 hrs away and I could at least drive there but the farther he gets away the harder it is getting. I haven't actually talked to him in over a week. He did leave a message on our machine this morning telling me Happy Birthday. I returned his call but got his VM. Thanks for the birthday wishes. How did you know it was my birthday? You must be psychic. I forget what Jake is in school for? How is he doing with A school? Does he goes to C school? You said something about his first duty station so I figured he didn't. Kyle will be in VA till late Sept early Oct. He will come home on leave for 2 weeks then head to Japan, if all goes as planned. He said he was going to go to a concert on Aug 1st. He likes VA better than GL. I think he will be stationed in Japan for the next 6 yrs. (Not sure) But I hope to make a trip there maybe next fall sometime. Not sure. Our 25th Anniversary is next year and some friends of ours are planning an Alaskan cruise and asked us to join them next summer. They have a son in the US Coast Guard stationed in Alaska, so they want to go visit him. So I am not sure if we could swing an Alaskan cruise and a trip to Japan in the same year. My daughter is back in to their house. They were lucky in that it only affected their basement. Still having a slight issue with some white mold but are getting it under control more. They have cleaned and cleaned. Now they are using some special paint that seals the walls I guess. It is just so depressing to see all this flood destroyed, and we weren't even directly affected. I know what you mean when you say I can't even imagine. I feel so terrible for those that have lost so much. My grandson is almost 3 months. I have some new pictures posted on my page. He is starting to smile alot and get more interactive with you when you talk to him. I am going to Minniapolis next month to see my girlfriend. Maybe we could get together sometime before I go there. I work this weekend but have the next three off. Maybe the weekend of the 9th or the 16th. Let me know if that would work out for you guys. Maybe go out to eat with our husbands or something. Or just some drinks and appetizers. What ever works. Again glad to hear from you. Don't be a stranger.

Hi stranger...I feel like everyone is a stranger. It's funny how we leaned on each other for every little thing and now it seems that so many other things are occupying our minds...Dustin calls so often and he is finally not having to CLEAN so much..He hates that and until his school starts that's all he was doing. He's on some kind of staff now and he has to check out the cleaners(instead of being one) ha ha..SO Now I'm not worried what he's doing because believe me we know.....He wants to know when his granddad and I are coming back to Chicago and I said we can't afford that 2 day drive and the gasoline. However, in Missouri it was the cheapest in the country. I think Texas (the land of SUPPLY) is the most expensive...next to Calif.....Dust hasn't started his school yet so now he is saying he will be there until Feb. I hope you are doing alright with all of the water. We went to Gulfport- Biloxi area after Katrina and it was unbelievable..It made me sick it was so depressing. Thank you so much for checking in with me. Please stay in touch and let me know what Jake is doing...ok???? God bless you and all of your fellow statesmen..Later....Carol
