About me:
Trae is my only child and I can't begin to tell you how much I miss him. He left for Boot Camp on 21 Feb. It is harder than I ever thought it would be, but I know it is nothing compared to what he is going thru. My husband and I just keep remembering that every day. Graduation cannot come some enough for us. But this space is supposed to be about me, so here goes. I have been a nurse for the past 20 years. I am currently working as the Assistant Director of Nurses in an assisted living facility. My husband and I are doing our best to survive each day as it comes, but it is harder some days than others. Like for instance, when Trae left on the 21st and his birthday was on the 28th. It was really hard to have him in Great Lakes alone on his birthday, but we are so proud of him and his decision to join the Navy.
My child's FIRST name only (No Last Names Please!):
Trae
My son/daughter is:
Enlisted
I was the proudest of my child when:
I saw him being sworn in for service. This was a decision Trae made on his own. He really surprised us when he came home and started talking about joining up. He was in the beginning ot his junior year and was trying hard to make good decisions about his life. HE researched and foound all the info he wanted and needed about the Navy. We took him to the recruiters station and he joined the DEP program and hasn't looked back since. He has made us both VERY proud!!
When my son/daughter first spoke about joining the service I:
Was proud, Encouraged him/her
As a new Navy mom, the most important thing I learned was:
No matter how little I can see or hear from my Sailor, I need to keep the cards and letters coming. He needs all the encouragement he can get.
My son/daughter is currently in the service or retired, and now I believe:
Our relationship has grown stronger, This was a maturing experience, This was the best decision he/she could have made

Just Thoughts

So Trae left yesterday headed to VA. We are SSSOOOO pround of him and the decisions he is making in his life to serve our country. Although he is still in school for a few more months, he is already thinking of the next phase of his life and what college courses he would like to take while working with the fleet. We never thought we would see that day come. I have to say that even though I shed a few tears when he left, this visit was much nicer than the last one. We actually spent a great amoun… Continue

PIR 4/18

OMG!!! I have always been proud of my son. He is a wonderful young man, kind, friendly, easy to be with, just an all around good guy. Now that is not to say that he has not made his share of mistakes, because who hasn't. But no matter how proud I have been of him in the past, pride was such an overwhelming feeling this morning when I saw him march into the drill hall at GL. To see him playing his trumpet just like in marching band was awesome of course, but to see him in those dress blues, took… Continue

Nevous Breakdown

Lord, what a wreck I have been. My cell phone has not left my field of vision for almost 5 weeks, as I have been anxiously awaiting a second call from Trae. Our plan was the same for this upcoming phone call as the last. Trae was to call my phone and then I would 3-way with his dad so we could all talk at one time. Good idea right? In theory, yes. As I stated my phone has not left my field of vision for 5 weeks, that is until today. I put the stupid thing on vibrate because I had a meeting this… Continue

Holy Cow, 5 days left

I can hardly believe it, 5, count them 5 more days left. It seems as though it has been a lifetime since I have seen Trae. (And then sometimes, the time seems so short.) I am so excited I can hardly sleep at night. I lie down and once I get to sleep I wake up often and the first thought in my brain is "how many more days and hours?" I catch myself coming to this website more and more often. When I first joined this site, I checked it occasionally through out the day, now I find my self checking i… Continue

HOORAY! Got a letter today!!

Wow, talk about the way that 3 little pieces of paper can turn your entire attitude around. Usually we get Trae's letters on Wednesday and when it did not come yesterday, we were soooo bummed out. However, today is a brand new day and we received a letter. YEA!!! Although Trae did not mention Battle Stations, which is what we are most concerned about, he did ask us to pray for division 922 on Saturday the 12th of April because they would be doing "Captain's Cup". He said this was similar to the… Continue

Robin, please email me at rbreese@dxpe.com. I have some personal questions that I'd like to ask; but don't like to post them for everyone.

Yes, I remember him seeing you and yes, you are the reason that I joined the website. I don't get on here much - yet. He doesn't leave until Feb; so I'm still not really "feeling" that he is really leaving. Thank you for talking to him. You really made him feel good about himself and even more sure that he wanted to be in the Navy.

Yes it is a small world! My husband and I went on a cruise a few years back and ran into someone we had both worked with. How weird is that- you don't really expect to run into people you know in places like that.

I didn't see where I left you a comment before - but if I am repeating myself, please overlook me!!! (I am a school teacher and it is the end of MAY)!!!
I think I read somewhere that you are having problems with diabetes.
I come from a LOOOOOOOnnnnggggg line of diabetics. We have in my family every size, shape and color of diabetes!!! I, myself am not - but just about everyone related to me is. (I tell my dad I am adopted because my sisters and brother are all goofy and diabetic). If I can help you in any way, please talk to me!! If I don't know, I can find out real fast (one sister lives in a travel trailer next door to me while she is building a house). Are you on insulin or just medicine and diet?
Hope I can help and be supportive in that way as well as in the Navy way.
PS - just found this neat quiz - being a teacher I am assigning it to you - due by May 23.

Cool! I have a sister that lives in Honoraville, which is not too far off of 331 and Highland Home. She lives closer to the I65 side though.
