About me:
I am a single mom of 3 boys with my oldest (18) just entering bootcamp. He arrived on April 9, 2008. That must have been the longest day of my life, waiting for that phone call that says "I made it here and I'm ok". I work in a law office as a legal assistant so between work and taking care of my 2 younger boys (16 & 14) I stay pretty busy.
My child's FIRST name only (No Last Names Please!):
Jimmy
My son/daughter is:
Enlisted
I was the proudest of my child when:
I am always proud of my son but on that Tuesday, April 8, 2008 when he left for bootcamp, I couldn't tell him enough how proud I was of him. He has the opportunity to make a great career move as well as see whatever he wants to see of the world. Now with BootCamp over and seeing my son for the first time in 8 weeks - took my breath away. Now he is finishing A school - how time flys. I can't wait to see him (it will be 3 months).
When my son/daughter first spoke about joining the service I:
Was concerned or afraid, Was confused, Needed to learn more about it, Was proud, Said “No way!”
As a new Navy mom, the most important thing I learned was:
Never letting him know exactly how scared I really was of him being in the Navy. I am very proud but also scared. He is my first born and will always be my little boy. I think the most important thing I learned was that I am not alone and this website proves it. I love all these moms with sons and daughters in the Navy along with my son. I may never get a chance to meet any other mom on here but just knowing they are going through the same thing I am and knowing I can help a new mom that has the same feelings I had is just a great feeling.
My son/daughter is currently in the service or retired, and now I believe:
Our relationship has grown stronger, This was a maturing experience, The Navy has a lot to offer, This was the best decision he/she could have made

Hi Cyndi, its so good to hear from you. I've been meaning to write and say hello, but I've hardly been on the computer and work has been hell, we've been so busy!

Jeff is still waiting (I think its making him nervous), and he's been watching his friends disappear, one by one, so its been hard on him (and us). He still doesn't know what he wants to do or where he wants to go, and he said he'll decide when he sees what's left when his turn comes. I don't know if he'll take the Vinson as he would prefer to be based on the East Coast, but things seem to change every day, so who knows? He wouldn't mind getting Norfolk, though, that much I do know.

Has Jimmy actually left yet? Will he be home for the holidays? Jeff still doesn't know about the holidays yet, either. First he said he WOULD be home Thanksgiving, and no sooner did I order (non-refundable) tickets, than he called to say he DID NOT think he would be able to come home because he thought he would already have his orders. Sooo.....we know nothing. And if he gets orders before Christmas, it will likely change any plans then, too. Its the not knowing that makes this so difficult. I can't even plan my vacation time and they don't like it when you wait until the last minute to request it. I am taking two weeks at Christmas no matter what, because I held so much time waiting to see what Jeff would be doing, that I have a ton to use before the end of the year!

Hope all is well. We are doing fine, it just seems as if there is too much to do (we are turning our empty bedroom into MY room! Painting, sofa bed and new TV, rocking chair, etc. We can still use it as a guest room, but I won't have to fight over the big TV anymore!

Take care,
Barb

Hi Cyndi!! Just stopping in to say "HI" and see how you are doing. I went to Pensacola this weekend to see Dustin and I got to meet Jimmy and Jeff! They are nice boys! Jimmy was a little quiet. :-) I didn't get to talk to him very much. I did get a picture of all 3 boys! I put it on my page. If you want me to e-mail you a copy just send me a private message with your e-mail and I'll send it to you! :-) Talk later!

Hi Cyndi,
Just found your comment from the 14th. I am a freaking nervous wreck. Justin's BS are this Thursday, had to find out on here. He has only been able to call home once. I can't believe he stuck this out either, but I am so damn proud of him, words can't express. Him of all people especially. I'm worried about A school though,he barely squeaked by High school, so this will be an even bigger obstacle in my opinion. I can't believe Jimmy is just getting started and he graduate d clear back on 6/6, my goodness, I sure hope Justin doesn't have to sit around that long and wait. I will take lots of pics, trust me, check my page after the 9/1. P.S. I'm gonna give your lil chit heck when I talk to him, he never even came to see me or called when he was in town, he's in trouble now.....lol Take care and talk to ya soon. (((hugs))) Renee
P.S. UGGGHHHH, the ex and wifey are coming too! :-)~~~

Hi Cyndi! Hopefully by the beginning of September he will be there. We don't have an exact date yet! I'll keep you posted. I live in Florida so it will be nice to have Dustin closer to home and he is ready to come home. He misses it down here. Of course I am a little farther south. I live in the Tampa Bay area. I'm about 8 hours from Pensecola so I will probably fly when I go. My husband has family up there so it will be nice to see them too! The good thing about the drinking is that Dustin doesn't drink! I'm thankful for that!! He says that he just stays away from those guys! He doesn't want to get into trouble! He's looking forward to going fishing and catching up with the guys! He says his school should start right away so that should be good! I can't wait to see him! It's been 2 months and although I talk to him almost every day several times a day I miss seeing him! I'm having withdrawl!!! :-) Have a great day! Talk to you soon!

Thanks for the note! Sorry about the cell phone -- I can never remember to charge the stupid thing; its been dead for 10 days and am carrying it around but it has no juice. I had to send my charger to Jeff because he couldn't find his, and keep forgetting to give my phone to Mike to charge! My home # is 703 644-7372; work is 202 974 1651. Those phones are plugged into the wall so they usually get answered!
Jeff is trying to get permission to come home Labor Day weekend. He's not on duty and could come Friday, but would have to go back Monday night. He even told me that "Jimmy and I are thinking about driving up" is it okay if Jimmy came too -- of course it is! But I pointed out that would mean 26 hours of driving for a weekend visit. He's looking into air fare, but the problem there is that he doesn't know if/when he can leave!
Thanks for letting me know that Jeff looks good -- I knew he'd get some sun and he tans so beautifully; otherwise he's a little pale (like his mother).
He said he had a great time with you guys and also mentioned that he only sees Jimmy on weekends (that may be a good thing for us!). But its nice to know that they enjoy each other's company and have common interests.
So where's this condo? If he doesn't get home, I guess I'm going to have to bite the bullet and head for Florida!
Take care,
Barb
