About me:
I'm a widowed mother of four and currently a full-time college student studying to become a landscape architect in Syracuse, NY. My late husband was retired from the US Army and was a veteran of both Vietnam and Desert Storm; patriotism runs high in our family. I have three daughters (all civilians, ages 25, 30 & 35) and my only son Ryan (age 20) just joined the Navy on 15 April, 2008, after being in the DEP program for almost a year. Ryan is in Division 213, Ship 9, and he's going to nuke school in SC after boot camp graduation on June 6th!

My child's FIRST name only (No Last Names Please!):
Ryan
My son/daughter is:
Enlisted
I was the proudest of my child when:
he took the oath of enlistment on 15 April, 2008
When my son/daughter first spoke about joining the service I:
Was proud
As a new Navy mom, the most important thing I learned was:
how to let go ... actually, I'm still working on that one ...
My son/daughter is currently in the service or retired, and now I believe:
This was a maturing experience, The Navy has a lot to offer, This was the best decision he/she could have made

Serving Our Country

Today is the 9th anniversary of my husband Jose's death. He was my second husband, but the only soul mate I ever had. He was smart, funny, strong, caring, patriotic... I could go on and on with the adjectives, but you get the picture. I still love the guy. When I moved to Arizona from Massachusetts, I met him on one of my first nights at work. It was almost corny ... our eyes met across a crowded room, and there was no going back for either of us. He was a career Army man who had just retired fr… Continue

Breakfast in Bed

This is strange ... my first Mother's Day in 35 years without a child in the house. Since Ryan left for boot camp on 15 April, I've been coping with empty nest syndrome. Aside from Ryan's crazy old cat Vader, there is literally no one in my house but me. I went to work this morning (I work part-time at a call center to support my "habit" of being a full-time college student), but they let me go home early because call volumes were unexpectedly low. So I had a rare Sunday afternoon with nothing t… Continue

Connie, How is school in Syracuse?? Are you still there? Austin leaves for boot camp on Oct 2nd not the 22nd. Wondering if you have any words of wisdom to throw my way!? Like what should I send with him if anything. I am thinking a phone card, address book and maybe a journal for him to write in. I'm feeling excited and anxious for him.
How was your sons graduation? If you are ever back in the area please give me a call- 673-2959

Hi Connie, Can you believe our boys will be graduating in just 10 days! I can't wait!!! Are you going to the get together at The Ramada on Thurs-June 5th? I would love to meet you in person. We'll be flying in from LAX Thurs am. We will be flying into Midway and are about an hour drive to GL. We reserved a car with a GPS, as we're both bad at directions. I'll be with my daughter in-law. I hope to see you!

Hi Connie,

Wow, it's a small world. I actually grew up in Liverpool just outside of Syracuse and still have alot of family and friends in that area. Austin, my son will graduate in June this year and will be going to boot camp on October 22, 2008 as far as I can tell. He has his first recruiter meeting this weekend in Cobleskill. I believe the recruiter's name is PO Wazewski(spelling?). I have a ton of questions, but can't make the meeting due to a previous obligation. I am starting a list for Austin to take with him. Thanks for writing. I think this website is great.

Hi Connie!!!! Are we counting the days down yet or not!!!! YES!!!!! I cannot wait to see our sailors. Are your daughters coming also? Even though our sons aren't in the same division, I hope to meet you there. Where will you be staying and for how long? My daughter and I are the only 2 people coming for Michael's graduation. Michael's dad is in Saudi Arabia, his brother is in Germany (Air Force), so it's just me and his younger sister. We will be getting there on June 4th and staying until June 9th. I am not at all sure how much time we get to have with Michael, but I wanted to give every opportunity to be there if we could see him longer. After boot camp, Michael is set to go to Mississippi for A school. I am not at all sure for how long. Tell me more about your Ryan. Have a great day. Becky
