Profile Information

About me:
Married to my high school sweetheart, into Genealogy, Music, and living the country life.
My child's FIRST name only (No Last Names Please!):
Michael
My son/daughter is:
Enlisted
I was the proudest of my child when:
I've always been proud of Michael, I waited 7 long years to get him. He made All Regional, All Conference, and All State Soccer Team in High School 3 of the 4 years. Playing soccer kept him out of trouble growing up, and we lived in a gang infested city.
When my son/daughter first spoke about joining the service I:
Was concerned or afraid, Was proud, Was relieved, Encouraged him/her
As a new Navy mom, the most important thing I learned was:
At first I was in the scared to death stage. As the time went on, while I was still tense and prayed alot about him passing all the tests, inspections and battle station, etc., it did get better... still shed tears, but it was better. Michael had PIR on June 27, and I couldn't have been prouder or more blown away by his strength and determination to survive...Even at PIR, they were dropping like flies [trying to faint] and he was one of the ones still strong and standing.... amazing, and I'm so proud! He went on to A School in Meridian, MS as a yeoman, and even though its a disappointment to him because he wanted damage control, he has accepted it and is once again, coming out strong.... he's had alot of past problems and with the death of his dad just 2 months prior to him going into bootcamp, I was worried sick..... He is stationed where he doesn't like it, but he is adapting. Now, to get over the homesickness!
My son/daughter is currently in the service or retired, and now I believe:
This was a maturing experience, This was the best decision he/she could have made

Hi Lanita, where is MO are you?? I'm in Shawnee Mission. I was sad to see your comment under Mo family...you sound so down. If I can help in any way please let me. I know how you feel about missing your son. I can understand. Where is your sailor and what does he do. Douglas is on a carrier in VA. I have not seen him for 9 months...I have never been away from him this long. It's been hard some days. But he's becoming the man he was ment to be. I have to be happy for him. Hope to hear from you. I hate to hear that is or was having a hard time. Its alot to deal with for such young age. Hopefully he'll start liking it better. Why won't his CO let him try out for soccer? I think that would help his alot. That doesn't sound right. It was hard not having ryan home for thanksgiving but he and several others went over to my aunts. They had a good time. Hope everything works and and def keep in touch...Thanks about Ryan..Yes we are proud and it was good to see him lastweek.

Hey Lanita..How are you? I haven't talked to you in awhile and wanted to check in. Where is Michael now? I thought about him when we were in Meridian, Ms last month. Just wanted to say hey and see how things are going.

Hi Lanita....hope you are doing ok today. I can understand what you've said about your feelings. My sister keeps saying "It's soooo romantic and he is doing soooo great. I get upset because she just doesn't get it. Sure, when they are on leave or have a day off, it's one thing but I can only imagine what their days are like! And........our imaginations can certainly run wild right?

I've been meaning to go to Jamesport for so long now, I have a good friend in Nebraska and we are meeting this fall and maybe Jamesport would be the right place!! I'm so sorry Michael had to go through such a horrible time with the death of a parent, and him being so young, it breaks my heart for him. Well, I will keep your family in my prayers. I live at the Lake of the Ozarks about 3.5 hours south of Kansas CIty. You live in what I bet can be a busy place with all the crafts, etc...It was nice to meet you so please stay in touch.

Lanita,
Hi, I read your comment and will pray for you. I'm sorry he's put on hold. One of the other moms I talk with, her son was put on hold for his night class until December. Then after that he should be able to start A school. Seems, the Navy like's the word Hold. I will keep you in mind and in prayer. I just read your profile, did Micheal grow up in Kansas City? I did as a kid and then we moved to the counrty in Excelsior Springs, which is where our two kids grew up. I'm thankful we did not have to live in the city. You're in my prayers.

I just spoke to Steven and he still does not have his orders. He said that if he does not get them tomorrow that I should not bother to come down there. I will keep you posted though. Marie
