Well he was happy at first until he found out that A school is also in GL LOL...he will be there for the winter after all. Unless he gets in the SEAL's then I am not sure where he will go.

You're funny Donna, my daughter is home from college for the week and said she would consider joining the Navy but didn't think she could make it thru the PTs - that's my excuse too!!! It's great that you are there to help the other moms, so many new families with their first exposure to the military and you are so.....experienced!!! I still belong to boot camp, A school, etc... just here to help where I can!

Hello Donna welcome to DEPPER's...I hope that this group can offer support and a place
to vent, cry, laugh and brag.
Please feel free to reply to one of our discussions
or start one of your own.
Questions about DEP are most defiantly welcome.
A question that you have may be a question that someone else has
but just hasn’t ask yet.
What we don’t know we will find out!

Hi Donna. I am so glad that you joined the Deppers group. I look forward to reading your post and getting to know you better. I am glad that you have some experience with all of this and can dispell some of the fear of the unknown for me. Jen

I think he got a better offer Donna! Holidays with mom ...or snowboarding in N. Cal?!!! LOL Don't take it personal but I might pick snowboarding too!!!
Airfares are outregous for the holidays plus airport security will probably be a nightmare too. I'm mentally prepared for Nick to miss the holidays with us because of his orders but we will have to see what happens. Just met one of our Navy moms for coffee...our sons went to the same school (different times) and she lives about a mile down the road, he is FC too...small world. Why don't you live closer?!!!

Seen this on another posting and thought it might be valuable to you...

It is easiest to group the enlisted ranks into three groups of three. E1-E3: seaman ranks, E4-E6: petty officers, E7-E9: chief ranks. The letters "CTT" tell others what my job is: cryptologic technician (technical). The 1 means that I am a First Class Petty Officer. From E1 to E9 the abbreviations are as follows: SR SA SN 3 2 1 C CS CM, and of course, the MCPON: master chief petty officer of the navy.

So when Matt gets his "crow" he will be ST3 - which tells the world that he is Sonar Tech, 3rd class!

It's good that he is Navy Donna...as his contract certainly is!! LOL
Crow is when he become a petty officer, which is a great thing and more money. Sounds like he might be an E3 right now and then when he becomes he E4 - that is petty officer, 3rd class. Some rates get advancement faster, or based on completing their schooling. Nick's contract calls from him to move to PO after six months as an E3 so by summer he should have it as well. Does Matt come home for the holidays - Nick had planned on taking leave then but everything is pending his orders right now. They told him he may stay in GL until leave and then go from here to VA. Or they may send him to VA now and then he can home for the holidays from there. His hard copy orders and travel arrangements are not made yet. I'm sure he will get to come home for a few days no matter how they do his orders.

Yes, my son is 20 years old and in the Navy 2 1/2 years, he has now married a girl who is 26 with 2 children by 2 different men and never married before. He did not tell us and we have had a very close relationship with him and go see him whenever we can. It has torn us apart, she won't work and he can't see what see is doing to him.
