michael
My son/daughter is:
Enlisted
I was the proudest of my child when:
When I saw him marking in at PIR, what an emotional day,
When my son/daughter first spoke about joining the service I:
Was concerned or afraid
As a new Navy mom, the most important thing I learned was:
always support in what ever your children want to do with their lives.
Learn as much as you can about the jobs your sailor will be doing, because they don't always tell you everything. lol I ove Navy moms.
My son/daughter is currently in the service or retired, and now I believe:
Our relationship has grown stronger, This was a maturing experience, The Navy has a lot to offer, This was the best decision he/she could have made

My Sailor is Home

What a emotional day, watching my son walk out of that airplane in uniform, he was very handsome. We had several people walk up to him thanking him for his service to our country. WOW! That makes me cry again just thinking about it. We stayed up to the wee hours of the morning just talking about all his adventures in Chicago, Glad I wasn't there he was having way to much fun. He made so many friends that now have gone onto their new journeys, he says he will miss them. I wish them all well. He wi… Continue

So Proud but very worried!

When my son called to tell us that he was joining the Navy, I could feel my stomach just ache. But I knew it has been something that he has talked about for a long time, but never thought he would do it. I was very happy after he graduated from high school when he deceided to go to school. My mind was at ease knowing that after watching the news during this time of war my son was not one of the men there. Then 4 years later he changed his mind. Now here I am, a mom of an Navy Sailor. so very pr… Continue

Hi,
I hope your son is well and doing great.
My son turned 22 on his graduation day from Medic school in Great Lakes and now he is in Camp Pendleton waiting for graduation on December 17th. He is in combat training with the Marines.

From how he explained it he will be a specialized mechanic. I do not know the exact name of it. Thank you I think he is handsome also, of course his sister would say he is gross LOL. You have great looking kids as well.

Your photo's of your son's PIR brought back a lot of happy memories, even if they were over 7 years ago. So many Mom's on this site are just starting out with their children in Boot camp or A school. Jonathan joined prior to 9/11 and I can tell you, that was a pretty scary time for our family. Jonathan has made one trip to the sandbox 2 years ago, and may be heading back again. I wish I'd had this kind of support system in place then! Hang in there, I have been where you are now!

Is he doing his FMT, or C school, how long are they in A school. ??? I wish him the best of luck. I have been to San Diego, its pretty nice there. But I guess it will depend on what he is doing. How long is he staying. He has got to check out see world if he can, that was pretty cool. My cousin was stationed there as a navy SP for a long time and my friends son is stationed there.

Hi Tamie,
Graduation is on Wednesday the 22nd. Mark told his Dad that they pack up early in the morning before the ceremony, go graduate, then come back, grab their stuff and start heading for the busses to the airport. Said he was flying out of O'Hare Weds afternoon. We have not heard from him all week though. I was about to text or call him! Let you know if he has any more info. He's headed to OK to be in a wedding first, so we won't see him until Sat or Sun. :( But, on the flip side, we'll probably have him to and through the Holidays, so I can't complain! Where did Michael do his Clinicals? How is he feeling about his next step? How are you?

Oh yeah, I remember that Terry worked at the recruitment office a couple times. Then after a year or two it wasn't the same guys in the office anymore. When he comes home we kind of have an agreement that he tries to be with us for a nice dinner (home or restaurant) then goes out afterward to visit friends. Like you said, some friends are back in school. This year hit him hard when he saw that most of those who left for college have graduated. Take care, and keep in touch. I'll be interested to hear how things go when he's home.

Tamie: hah, I started an email to you and think I lost it when I went to another screen. But I am glad to hear from another Oregon Mom! When my son Terry was at GL and I was there for grad, we went to the mall & he had his photo put on a mousepad for his dad & some fridge magnets for family. Of course he was in his uniform. It was 5 years ago, but we all still have these and see him every day on the fridge! I know you'll be so glad when you son's home, but don't be surprised if he hangs with friends a lot, too.
