I am a registered nurse and work as a case manager for a medical insurance company. I am the mother of three children- two sons and one daughter. Both of my sons have just joined the Navy. My oldest son's PIR was 8/08/2008, he graduated from A School in Pensacola, Florida on 10/31/2008 and is currently stationed in Oceana, Virginia. My youngest son just graduated from boot camp on 10/31/2008 and is now in A School in Great Lakes. I am so proud of them both!!!
My child's FIRST name only (No Last Names Please!):
Drew and Matthew
My son/daughter is:
Enlisted
I was the proudest of my child when:
I can't think of a moment when I wasn't proud of them both. I think joining the Navy has made them even more proud of themselves.
When my son/daughter first spoke about joining the service I:
Needed to learn more about it, Was proud
As a new Navy mom, the most important thing I learned was:
To encourage them to do their best and learn from their experiences.
My son/daughter is currently in the service or retired, and now I believe:
This was a maturing experience, The Navy has a lot to offer, This was the best decision he/she could have made
Hey Mary, Happy Thanksgiving weekend. How was your turkey day? Mine was good. I got a call from Jacob. He should get home before Christmas. They want to get all dental done before he leaves because he will be going to Norfolk from here. But he says it will only delay his homecoming a few days. I can't wait for him to get home. Did you hear from your boys? It is different not having them home but that is part of being a Navy Family. I knew when he was talking about going in the Navy that Jacob would miss holidays. So how is Matthew liking Great Lakes for A school? How much snow has he seen? How is Drew doing? I bet it does keep you busy having two sons in the Navy but I know it just makes you twice as proud. Hope to hear from you soon. Take care and keep in touch. Barbara
Hello again! Thank you for the info. We found out today that he is assigned to the VFA-106 (Gladiator) squadron, and I am going to pick him up on Monday. He missed the out-dock list today, so hopefully tomorrow. He has to buy a car when he comes home, so now I will worry about him driving up there. I am a worry freak!
Hello, my name is Melissa, and I hope you don't mind me stumbling across your page, but my son just got orders to also go to Oceana, not sure when he will get there, but I see your son may have just gotten there, and was wondering if you could share some things that may be good to know. Mainly I need to know what he needs to take with him as far as what he may need for the baracks, like house hold stuff, I am just not sure what the base provides for them Thank again, hopefully we can be freinds! We live in FL, and he is going to have a hard time with the cold weather, he is already worried about the snow...lol.
Hi Mary. I have still got my little ones at home and two older ones for a bit longer. i will be praying for you as i miss Josh so much and feel a bit lost. i can't imagine not having my babies to keep me busy and my mind not wandering.
