About me:
I am William's Mom. He graduated high school on June 5, 2008, and will leave for Great Lakes on July 2, 2008. He is following in his Dad's footsteps, his Dad enlisted in the Navy almost 43 years to the day that William did! My daughter is staying home and starting college in the Fall.
My child's FIRST name only (No Last Names Please!):
William
My son/daughter is:
Enlisted
I was the proudest of my child when:
When he was given a later date to start boot camp, but decided he needed to start his career in the Navy NOW! He could have taken the summer off, but he did not!
When my son/daughter first spoke about joining the service I:
Was proud, Encouraged him/her
As a new Navy mom, the most important thing I learned was:
The best way to support him!

DebDeb,
Thank goodness your nephew is doing better. Yes when it comes to our kids I do not hesitate to take to urgent care or ER, I rather be safe than sorry. We are leaving from Corona on Sat.8/23 ourselves. We should be in Great Lakes by Thurs. morning; it takes 30 hours to get there, but we are making a few stops on the way. We are going to see John Wayne's birth house in Iowa as well as the fighting Sullivan Bros Memorial and the movie site of Field of Dreams all in Iowa. Yes, I also hope Mitchell is feeling better and we talk with one of his fellow SeaCadet friends that joined the Navy one year ago and she said she got really sick herself with the flu and some of them had strep throat and she also said the closer they got to graduation the more sick they got. I guess this is a normal thing and Mitchell isn't the only one sick. We also will be taking our laptop so we will be able to communicate with the other parents. Mitchell told us that they will be able to call us after they complete BattleStations which his div. does it on 8/26-8/27 and told us to stay by the phone. We will have all our cell phones fully charged that day.
Well, it's not much longer now and we are in the home stretch and counting down the days.
Talk to you soon,
Marcy

DebDeb, yes, we get letters from Mitchell every Thursday. He writes as much as he can and sends them all in one envelope. We got a phone call from him 7/27 and he had trouble getting through because of the earthquake. He had called when I out. He did call back so I was able to talk to him. I got the sad sounding Mitchell; I guess cause he was talking to mom. He said his throat was still bothering him and he had this sore throat for about 4 weeks now. He just sounded homesick and tired. It sounded so good to hear from him. I'm sorry you haven't received either one of them. Mitchell at the last minute they were able to call home, he was even surprised. It had been extremely hot that day, with the heat and humidity he said it was 110. Hang in there, not much longer now. Marcy

No grad pack yet. Last night a horrible storm hit that area but Great Lakes faired well as far as I could tell. My family lives in NW Indiana (1 1/2 hours away from GL) and they had a tornado touch down and there is a lot of damage. My sister said her weather radio was going crazy!

Thanks. My Mom just passed away in April, we had to put the dog Will grew up with to sleep last month, and then the week before he left for boot camp 2 friends he had just graduated high school with were killed in a car accident. He does NOT need to know about another death....
