About me:
I am the mother of two wonderful sons, one, Shaun, 22, has joined the Marine Corp and is scheduled to leave for boot camp in September. My youngest, Michael, 18 is the reason I have come to this site. I actually grew up in Chicago, not all that far from Great Lakes and I have family still there so that is kind of nice that he will be close to family. I also go to college, working on my degree for Clinical Lab Science while working at a hospital in Scottsdale, Az. My kids dad (Brad) and I are no longer married, but we are the very best of friends and actually hang out quite often! We have both been very committed, together, to raising our kids to be compassionate, respectful, honorable adults. I have to say about my son Michael, he has always known exactly what he wanted and he has been goin for it ever since he was probably 15 or so. He was great in school so i knew anything he wanted to do, nothing was in his way. But even knowing how focused he has been since the day he was born, the realization still hits home so hard. I will miss him horribly but in between the crying times, I will enjoy watching my son go and get exactly what he wants out of life! :-)
My child's FIRST name only (No Last Names Please!):
Michael
My son/daughter is:
Enlisted
I was the proudest of my child when:
Can't pick only one time
When my son/daughter first spoke about joining the service I:
Was concerned or afraid, Was proud, Encouraged him/her
As a new Navy mom, the most important thing I learned was:
...Is that there a whole lot of great people involved with this website and I thank God I found it!!!

Thanks for answering. Before his recruiter suggested EOD he signed up for Air Crew. Now he has to wait for that or something else to happen. I am frustrated as Colin does not call home. He was not the most communicative child but this is very frustrating to me and his dad. Good luck to your son.

Hi Karyn,

Just interested in knowing about the rest of the group, where they went etc. My son was EOD but washed out the last week. He is being reassigned but they are taking forever.

Bye
Sue

Saw your Christmas count down clock. How did you find out when Michael gets home? What have you found is the best way to get our sailors home from school?

HI Karyn,
My son is currently in boot camp...his PIR is 3 Oct 08. He is also going into the ET/FC field and will be in A school at GL. His older brother is an ET on a destroyer. In all I have 3 in the Navy, my oldest is a Chief on a Sub. My ET was planning on being FC, but the Navy had other ideas and directed him to ET after A school. I guess they know what they are doing because he says he LOVES his job! He has been on deployment with his battle group since February and has been to Palau, Bernai, Kenya, Cyprus and now Dubai. His ship is having a tiger cruise when they get to Hawaii in October and his other brother is going to meet the ship and sail back to home port, Everett, WA. ( I have 5 boys in all, 3 Navy, 1 Army Reserve (the one going on the cruise) and 1 is a manager for Kohl's.)

Hi Karyn, thank you for the welcome. I see you have one Marine and one Sailor, nice. I have one sailor and one Air Force. MY Airman is flight crew so he flies and his twin brother will hopefully be on a sub. Just like they have always been total opposites, but we couldn't be prouder of them both. We also have a daughter 22 years old.

Loving Micheals' new pix. You may have replied on our PIR page, but what is he doing and where is he? How did you find out for sure he will have Christmas break? Has he signed up with his recruiter to work part of that time in the office to save some of his vacation days?
Andy is at Goose Creek, SC. He also says it will be closed down for Christmas, but we don't know too much beyond that. (He's probably busy making plans with his gf.)

Thanks so much for writing. I'm still learning my way around the website. Where to reply and all that. I work for a group of pulmonary docs at Banner Heart. Was tired of weekends and holidays (the hospital thing) Glad to know there is someone close to talk to. Haven't got a real letter yet, but have been writing him everyday. Take care and write soon.
