About me:

Check out this awesome display of floral patriotism!
My child's FIRST name only (No Last Names Please!):
Katie, Avionics Tech
My son/daughter is:
Enlisted
I was the proudest of my child when:
she graduated from basic training in Great Lakes. I have to tell you, she is a "Princess" and will admit to that. She had the delayed entry program, and I thought surely she would try and back out before time to go. She didn't, she stayed committed, and is the most beautiful sailor ever!
When my son/daughter first spoke about joining the service I:
Said “No way!”
As a new Navy mom, the most important thing I learned was:
my daughter has learned the meaning of committment, and now duty, honor, and pride. Although she joined for different reasons, she is staying for the right ones.
My son/daughter is currently in the service or retired, and now I believe:
This was a maturing experience

Virginia Beach, here we come!

Kate put in her request, didn't qualify in years of service for Japan or Hawaii, and just missed Corpus Christi. So, she's waiting for her orders to "pop" next week for Virginia Beach. I was hoping she'd get leave for this weekend, as she graduated A school the 2nd of Oct, and it was my birthday, and I bought a new house, and my dad was here from Costa Rica!!!! Thought all the kids were gonna come together, but they didn't But all in all it's been a productive week. Kate has been cards from Navy… Continue

Kate just called, panicked and crying. Apparently they went to the beach today, and she was stung by a jellyfish. She had no idea what to do, and was freaking out. I know a "home remedy" is to put urine on the spot, the uric acid neutralizes the toxins. I'm sure she didn't have meat tenderizer. I heard them talk about a lifeguard in the background, so i sent her over there. I know they were laughing at her crying, but i've never been stung but I know they can be very painful. SHe's never been st… Continue

Kate received her cell phone yesterday, and has probably been burning up the minutes. I know she texted endlessly to me. She has also found access to the internet in Liberty hall, and has been playing on her Myspace. I'm glad they have internet, but hate that they can still play around, that site is nothing but trouble, I swear. I had to make a profile just so I could log in and see what my kids were up to! I remember even having to add spyware to the computer so I could go back and see what the… Continue

Happy Mothers Day!

Got a call from Kate yesterday, she said they got to call for free. She's doing great, has 2 roomies, and anticipates being stationed there quite a while, even past the 5 months of A-school first anticipated. She knows of 1 girl in her same job who's been there 9 months. Not sure when school beings, waiting on more sailors. She sounded good, really likes the new "freedom" on the base, I'm sure ANYTHING is better than BC. Says the NEX is larger, I asked about a commissary, is that what all branch… Continue

Yes, Jorge worked in the Beaumont hospital - the command center. He came home today to wash his Chef Jackets and try to repair the busted pipe at the barn and help salvage what could be saved from our shed that blew 2 acres away. It had our farm and restaurant equipment in it. Most ruined. But this year the trees ripped up fell from east to west and did not fall on any fences. During Rita, they fell North to South and fell on all the fences and septic system. Your son thats going Oct 2nd, does he live here? Is he gonna fly or drive?

Kate got to make it home for a weekend a few weeks ago, rather surprised us! It was a great visit, she is due to grad A school Oct 2. I can't make this one, but my eldest son is planning to go, he hasn't seen her since she's been gone, he'll probably be really proud when he first sees her in that uniform! WE rode out Hurricane Ike, got some water in thru floor and ceiling but saved everything. We are in the midst of buying a house, and it rode it out well, the oak tree split in the front yard, but fell into the street, not into the house!
Out of power about 36 hours, yuck. Cooked on a coleman stove, lines are miles long now for gas and ice, there are many, many still without power. I worked part of the storm as I am a nurse, the hospital suffered wind damage but that was it. Hope you all are fine and well! Angie

Just browsing the nurse mom's group and see you are from Houston. I hope you are safe and did not have too much damage from Ike. I realize it may be awhile before you get this message due to no power. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. I am a Katrina survivor. I'm on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. I have been surprised at the wind and tides we are having here. We have had 25 - 30 mph winds here since Wednesday. Our tides are up, and many of the low lying areas are flooded. The beach hwy- hwy90 is closed due to the tides/water washing over the roads and leaving sand and debris. Good luck to you. Melody

Wazzup? Yep, mine is spending every bit he makes, but he bought his own used car, so he's 19, and I can't tell him what to do anymore....

FINANCES! How are your sailors doing? Mine is spending whatever she makes, they make it too easy to overdraw and get that advance! Do they realize they're paying interest on it? I'm angry at her and considering cancelling our trip to FL if she can't show some responsibility.

Don't know about you guys, but even with Katie away, the 4th had a whole lot more meaning to me than in the past. I was "noncompliant" in my dress code last night, we only get to wear plain navy blue scrubs, but i topped mine off with a patriotic print I've had for years.....plus a flashing ribbon pin and a flag pin, I would have taken it off if somehad had said something, but no one did. I also took my baby flag from our N4M party and mounted it on my counter, as well as the "parent of a sailor" bumper stickers. I have a very whacky reputation. However, it does mean so much more when you child is/will be fighting for that same independence. Love to all!

Hi Angie, my kids had so much fun that they were out like a light on the way home. Laura is doing great! Summer will be very long this year for her since she's doesn't have her brother to hang around with. Yes, we should do lunch one of these days. Kisses to Bailey. Chym

Hey, not a problem!! I just wanted something fun to do to attract people from distance to have a good vacation. Funny - we only attracted Kimberly from a distance!!
I had a great time and knew you and Chym were kid led. I am glad you had each other. I think her name is Chym online - will go find her link for you.
Will send pictures through Walmart, unless you prefer Shutterfly. You can order them online and have them sent right to your Walmart!!
