The Journey is Almost Over

Well our journey is almost over...I just spoke to Michael & he stated that he signed his separation papers on the 11th & he should be leaving there no later than the 25th...he said that he will get a 10 minute call the day before he leaves to give us the travel information...he said that his separation papers state that it was an "erroneous enlistment"...not sure what that means but guess we will figure that out when he gets home...he has decided that he is going to take a bus home rathe… Continue

Week 4

I'm not sure how this blog stuff works but I'm going to try it anyhow...I received my 3rd letter from Michael yesterday...it was kind of cute...he had dated the top of the letter like this "June ??, 2008"...he then went on to tell me that he had the question marks for the day of the month because he has lost total track of the date...lol...he said he knew it was Friday and 3-2 day...he said the reason that he knew it was Friday is because they start a new week of training every Thursday...so if… Continue

Hi Ruth: how is everything? How is Michael doing at the job? Rachel finally applied for some jobs, but we are still checking out the schools. She seems to be in good spirits. I asked her if she wants to get rid of her hat only had it 3 days as the day she arrived on the ship got blown away and had to replace it asap but we are surprised she wants to keep it.

Brian is home and the Navy flew him to Phila. He seems to be adjusted fine. I could not believe how much weight he lost. He was a little over weight when he left. His face is so thin. None of his clothes fit anymore. Keep in touch. Let me know how Michael is doing.

I'm glad to hear that Michael got the job. I know it is going to be difficult for Brian and our family when he comes home. He has been gone for 3 months. We have to give him his space untill he feels comfortable again at home. He keeps talking about signing up for classes at the local community college. I hope he is serious. Brian called and said he should be leaving in a couple of days once they figure out his transportation. Will keep in touch.

Ruth,

I'm so happy for Michael! Courtney finally made it home. She has moved to Erie (about 30 miles from Home) and is taking classes for Dental Assistant. She'a doing very well. Joe just got new that he has been accepted into the Nuke program, so his leave has moved out till Jan or Feb. That's fine with me, now he'll be home for the holidays! Well, I will keep Michael in my prayers, take car and stay in touch.

Ruth, Thanks for the advice on the MRI. I still can't understand why the Navy didn't do that. My son says his hip is starting to feel better. He is happy that he is coming home. It must have been a discouraging time for your son since he arrived home. I hope he gets one of the jobs that he is interviewing. That is one big concern when they come home to try to get there life in some order. Good luck.

Hi Ruth. We were in the same PIR group. Rachel PIR 7/25 then went off to Bootcamp did fine, then A school in Meridian, Mississippi, then assigned to a ship in Norfolk. She spent only 3 days on the ship and was separated. she had difficulty on the ship, her phone and stuff were stolen and she couldn't sleep and didn't adjust to the ship life. During the separation process they lost some of her papers, and she almost had to go out on the ship for a few days even though they were separating her. My husband went out to Virginia, he's retired Navy and had a few stressful days but was able to get her home instead of being hung up in the system. Im glad she's home but need her to motivate herself and look for work or go back to school.
